He has spent the last fifteen years in the fire and gas safety industry with the main focus being gas analysis and detection. Simon has developed training courses and delivered seminars on all aspects of gas detection to major companies in the UK and internationally. These have included BP, Shell, Total and Conoco Phillips in the petrochemical industry as well as a wide variety of leaders in other industries such as Rio Tinto, Wilhelmsen Ships Service, AMEC, Severn Trent Water, Transco and BMW to name just a few. He is also an ISO 9000 qualified auditor with experience throughout the UK. Simons role with Resource Protection International as Senior Projects Engineer allows him to deal with all aspects of fire and gas detection and protection for the companys wide international client base. This will include discussion of gas hazard incidents and gas detection system critical performance criteria. Certification issues will also be discussed covering the methods of protection for electrical equipment to be used in potentially flammable atmospheres under the terms of the ATEX directive. About Resource Protection International Resource Protection International is an independent consultancy specialising in Fire Hazard Management (FHM) of oil and petrochemical facilities. The teams skills and knowledge include fire science, fire systems engineering, process engineering, gas detection engineering, fire protection/safety systems auditing, hazard assessment, major incident fire fighting, system commissioning and training, all based on extensive international hands on experience including Management of Fire Brigades at Oil Production and Storage facilities on behalf of a major international oil company. RPI were contracted to provide technical assistance at the major Buncefield terminal incident in the UK. Dr Ramsden of RPI attended the incident within 3 hours, remained on site for 28 hours and then later returned to witness final extinguishment. Subsequently he has been involved in the investigations, debriefs and reviews of the Explosions Overpressure Mechanism. All seminars and courses directed by Resource Protection International aim to give delegates a thorough understanding of the subjects discussed.
