Progressive Control Pathway [pcp] FMD incidence, including data sources and method of calculation; FMD is a notifiable disease in JORDAN The last FMD outbreaks in Jordan were in 2006 ► Quarantine ; ► Control on border check points ; ► Movement of life animal and animal products were restricted (National Numbering Project for Life Animals); 9

► Compulsory routine vaccination was held in infected zones and prophylactic (free) vaccination was held in whole country. ► The eradication was implemented by veterinary service in Jordan ► Disease surveillance and control measures are implemented by vaccination in the whole country. ► Reference Lab confirmed A-iran-05,O-pan Asia-2 10

Continue [pcp] Working hypothesis on how FMD spreads in the country, and FMD risk hotspots (if available); FMD High Risk Zones: ► Villages and farms bordering to country which have no transparency and sharing information. ► Territories nearby livestock (live animals) markets. There is no control on animal movement between the village in side the country. 11

Continue [pcp] Introduction of FMD in Jordan ► From other countries; ► From not controlled occupied transit country in the region; ► Jordan is one of the biggest transit country in the region ; ► Possible risk from wild animals; ► Cross-border livestock trade. 12

Risk factors of spread of FMD virus inside the country : ► huge amount animal movement in seasonal pastures (winter and summer); ► Live animal markets; 13

Continue [pcp] Control measures implemented (if any); FMD Disease control measures: ► Clinical surveillance for early detection of FMDV. ► Control on animal movement. ► Monitoring and control on animal transhumance routes. ► Legislation –animal owners responsibilities ► Vaccination (A iran 05, A22, O pan asia2, O manasia) 14

► Veterinary control on bordering check points. ► Surveillance on live animal markets. ► Veterinary control on NSP detection 15

Continue [pcp] Progress in formulating control strategy including target sectors, key measures: The key elements of the Jordan FMD control strategy: ► Early detection, warning and prevention. 16

► Monitoring and immediate reporting of illness and sound bio-security practices at farm level. ► Outbreaks investigation. ► Clinical inspection of animals. 17

Continue [pcp] ► Animals are under veterinary control during quarantine period before the export, they are identified and tested on different infectious diseases, the list of the countries exported live animals from Jordan has significantly increased ► Presently on the FMD surveillance and control measures has been paid more attention in Jordan, so we have succeed in progressive control pathway for FMD 18

Risk based control measures are implemented for all territory, based on FMD strategic control plan developed in stage 1 ► ► More particularly on the North of Jordan with Syrian border. ► ► Veterinary Services organize regular meetings with private vet on the implementation of FMD control measures, early warning and extension programs. ► ► VS with the collaboration of FAO/OIE are planning to implement surveillance for major animal diseases then to apply vaccination campaign and to improve the capabilities of the national laboratories. 19

GAPS IDENTIFIED IN 2013 ROADMAP MEETING Ministry of Agriculture didn’t attend this meeting 20

FMD Outbreaks 2013-2014 ► Cases and geographic distribution No Outbreak of FMD 21

- No active surveillance for FMD - Lab Result for 2013 Description of 2013-2014 FMD surveillance results SpeciescattlesheepgoatMixed (Sheep &goat) +ve samples 038022 -Ve samples 18524248 22

► For PCP stages 2 and 3 We are still working in stage 2 Description of FMD control strategy 23

► For PCP Stages 2 and 3 ► Stage 2:  Are control measures reducing FMD impact? Yes ► Stage 3:  Are control measures moving towards FMD elimination? It needs More work and time (Active Surveillance, laboratory evidence that the vaccine is appropriate,.... ) Critical assessment on if strategy is achieving the goal 24

► FAO Project for surveillance and vaccination. Plans related to FMD surveillance and control in the short and long term 25
