6 Anything you want to add? Advanced handbook Logbook To get the certificate you need to complete the syllabus in the logbook. This should be possible by combining this course with a days coaching organised by one of the club racing coaches.

8 Why Race? Social, make new friends Somewhere to go Improves skills Don’t need to win to have fun! Don’t be put off by the apparent ‘high standard’ of sailing or the shouting. Everyone has to start somewhere and you might be surprised.

9 How Racing is Organised Royal Yachting Association co-ordinates Class Associations Clubs (where all the work is done) There’s also the ISAF but we won’t say anything more about them. Except – You can download the rules from their site for free.

10 How Racing is Organised Class organised racing –Run by clubs for the class associations –National or regional –Class championships Club racing –Wednesdays and Sundays? –For members –Maybe class starts

11 How Racing is Organised OOD or PRO sets a course Start Sail around course Finish Results calculated and posted

12 Class racing Same class competing against each other May start with other boats but results then separated. BCYC Wednesday evening races

13 Handicap Everyone racing against the clock Handicap used to correct time round the course. Fastest corrected time wins!
