2 Microsoft® has announced that it will end support for the Windows XP operating system on August 4 th, 2014. Top management has made this a priority for the organization to limit the impact of the end of support for Windows XP on the company’s daily operations. By being proactive in the upgrade the client has determined that is will implement the project on its own terms instead of Microsoft’s®.

3 There are 567 desktop systems and 375 laptops for a grand total of 942 machines that will need to be upgraded. “To run Windows 7 Professional, your PC must have at least 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster, 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor 1 gigabyte RAM (32-bit or 2 GB RAM (64-bit), 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit) and DirectX 9 graphics device with Windows Display Driver Model 1.0 or higher driver” (Bradley, p. 5, 2009).

6 HPSD (HP Service Desk) Ticket System Tracks progress Records any issues Allows report generation Monitors each installation (time, date, user, tech) Weekly Team Meetings “Rather than spending countless hours reading through email chains and clarifying meaning, meetings are often the most effective means to ensure alignment” (Lichtenwalner, 2011).

13 There is very little room for project scope creep since the scope of the project has been sharply defined. The Project manager will need to make sure that his 4 member team keeps on track with the upgrades by monitoring their progress through the HPSD ticketing system and by holding weekly meetings. It will be the Project manager's responsibility to also make sure the project stays as close to budget as possible. This project will allow the client to continue to carry out its daily business for years to come.
