2 Christopher Columbus was born 1451 in Genoa, Italy.
His parents were Susanna and Demenico Colombo. When he was young he worked at his father’s shop but dreamed of being at sea. When he got older his dream came true and he became a Sailor. Christopher went to Lisbon, Portugal where his brother lived. And together they ran a shop that sold maps and books. In Lisbon Christopher married Dona Felipe Moniz de Perestrello and they had a son together named Diego. But later Christopher’s wife Felipe died, so he moved to Spain. Where he and Beatriz Enriquez de Harana together had a son named Ferdinand.

saw an Island Southeast of Florida. Christopher told his men to row ashore of the Island. There Christopher planted a flag in the sand and claimed the Island for Spain and named It San Salvador Christopher left some of his men to search for gold in the ‘’new world’’ King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella named him ‘’Admiral of the Ocean Sea’’ In September 1493 Christopher sailed with his men to get the men that stayed behind to find gold. Christopher found other islands. He set up a colony on Hispaniola, one of the largest islands, and named it Isabela, after the Queen.

4 Christopher sailed to America again in 1498 and 1502.
The men were hopeful to find gold and riches. But found very little gold. So Christopher was no longer a hero. Christopher Columbus died in Valladolid,Spain on May 20,1506. He was a great sailor, able to find his way across unknown waters and back home. He had found the New World.
