1 What does progress mean? Give an example of progress. Remember, write at least 5 sentences.

2  Standard 11.2.9 Understand the effect of political programs and activities of the Progressives (e.g., federal regulation of railroad transport, Children's Bureau, the Sixteenth Amendment, Theodore Roosevelt, Ida Tarbell).

3  Let’s watch the last 10 minutes of Iron Jawed Angels to see how Progressive thinker Alice Paul’s work led to women’s suffrage.

4  With your partner:  Read pages 327-330  Create a describing map on page 42 of your ISNs  Place “Progressive Beliefs” in the middle and describe them as you read  On a separate sheet of paper, one per person, answer the three questions where it says “reading check.” One is on page 328 and two are on page 330. Write in full sentences using academic language  These are due before you leave.

5  While watching the video on The Progressives create a Thinking Map on a sheet of paper. This will be turned in at the end of the class.

6  ISN page 43  Think about a time when you, someone you know, or someone you know of, worked to solve a problem. What was the problem? What was done to solve it?

7  _____Read, highlight & answer biographical briefing questions  Fill out group role/job worksheet  Complete one of the following jobs according to your role:  a) Summary: 7 sentences  b) Face:, 2 symbols & 2 pictures  c) Face: Two major quotes & thought bubble  d) Face: Words, most important problem, how to address it

8  After your group reads about your figure discuss the questions and write the answers to them, in full sentences on page 44 of your ISN  When you are finished reading and answering all the questions get your materials together and begin the Mind Mirror

9  Think about the problems the Progressives tried to solve in the early 20 th century. What are some problems today in the United States that need to be addressed? You are a modern day Progressive. Pick one problem in the US today, describe it and give a suggestion as to how it could be solved.

10 Get into your groups. Finish your mind mirror You have 10 minutes In 10 minutes we will have a Gallery Walk where you will look at everyone’s mind mirror

11  Make sure your group’s mind mirror is clear and has the Progressive Thinker’s name clearly on it.  Clear your table of everything but your mind mirror.  Move to the next table and analyze the mind mirror.  Fill out your matrix from the information given on the mind mirror, you have 5 minutes.  When the bell rings and the 5 minutes up move on to the next table  Your completed notes go on page 46 of your ISN.
