1 Author’s Purpose “Bridge to Terabithia” actually did have a clear enough purpose. The author herself, Katherine Paterson, actually wrote about her purpose for writing for the Scholastic Publishing Company.

2 Author’s Purpose We will read this article together first and then analyze in small groups.

3 In assigned groups of 4, in no more than ten minutes, for today’s points (group grade):

Why do you think James Hurst wrote “The Scarlet Ibis”? Is there a bigger meaning behind it? Write down two of your own ideas, first, in your warm-up notebook.

First, what is style in general? (Think broad, not just literature or English). Write your idea down first. So, then, if style allows an author to be engaging, pleasing, unique, and effective, for a specific purpose, stylistic analysis is the study, with literature, of how an author goes about creating it!
