4. No this is not me this is my daughter, Arayeah- she is my life and my first born and the reason you are reading this presentation. Shaping my financial future is in large part because of her. She is a reflection of me and this presentation is dedicated to her. Now, a little about myself. My name is Davisha Johnson and I am an student at University of Houston studying construction management. I have two children Arayeah and Davon and I’m from Atlanta, GA. I studied architecture for about 5 years but I decided that my future was not to wait ten to fifteen years until I make some real money. So I decided to take hold of my own financial future and move to Houston to study construction management which I think will lead me in the right direction. So enjoy this presentation on shaping my financial future.

6. It’s always good to have a support system to surround me and encourage me. My mom, daughter, son, and brother are my motivation and each one plays an integral part in my future. Leading by example is how my mother and brother motivate me, one a successful computer administrator for over 25 years and the other a world traveling teacher in Chile, Argentina. 10. In order to start to think about making money I need to have the tools that will allow me to be successful. Making money starts long before you get a job-it starts in the classroom. Beginning around 7th grade children should be thinking about some form of post-secondary education. Whether it’s online or in the classroom specialized education gives you an advantage when entering the job field of your choice. 11. I chose the field of construction because I have been interested in it since I was a child. Having a career that you enjoy is one way to guarantee success. But I have also done some research in the field and found some statistics that guarantee me a mid- range salary upon graduation. The statistics will show that over a 10 year period the average salary for a project manager increases by 40%.

12.  Once you have finished your education and chosen your career goals it is time to start making some real financial decisions. According to Richard Jenkins of MSN.com “The blunt truth is that if you make the right choices early in life on a handful of major decisions, you'll never have to worry about financial security.” Mr. Jenkins and I have some of the same ideas on the steps to shaping your financial future.MSN.com His steps include: 1. 13. “Time is always on your side and can be very beneficial to your financial growth. Part of shaping your financial future is setting goals and time limits. If you don’t meet the deadline that doesn’t mean your dreams are over. Life happens to everyone and different circumstances can affect your time schedule. Atlanta, GA is an ever growing city thriving with young African American professional and entrepreneurs. While Houston, TX is global center for oil and gas industry as well as construction. Comparing the two Houston just seemed like the better alternative for my future.

15. Well now that you have viewed this presentation you should have some insight on how I plan to shape my financial future. My family is my main motivation, especially my children, and they make me want to achieve my goals. Putting myself in the right environment, making the right educational, career, and financial decisions will help me succeed no matter how long it takes.
