4  McLaren Port Huron is a 186-bed not-for-profit community hospital.  Committed to making a positive difference in the health of our communities since 1882.  Full spectrum of inpatient and outpatient health care services to residents in St. Clair and Sanilac counties.  McLaren Port Huron is expanding and renovating the 132 year old hospital.

6  Educational Background: 1975: St Joseph Mercy Hospital, Detroit Michigan X-ray Technologist program 1987: Bachelor of Human Services, St. Mary College, Orchard Lake, Michigan Saginaw Valley State University, earned 18 credits toward MBA, however he did not finish due to a promotion.

7  Influenced by his friends parents to go into radiology.  1990-1999 Army Medical Student  Residency was completed at Brooke Army Medical Center in Fort Sam Houston Texas  University of Michigan, Ann Arbor: completed a one year fellowship in Interventional Radiology  1990: Boston University, Medical degree  Stanford University: earned his BS and MS in Biology

9  Practicum is designed to eliminate errors in ordering of CT scans from outside medical offices. By creating an electronic protocol manual, medical office personnel will then be able to order the proper test for patients to include: oral and IV contrast agents, lab work and proper anatomy.

10  Identify which outside medical offices are in need of this electronic manual  Train outside medical office on use of electronic manual  Put electronic protocol manual in full operation.  Supply office(s) with a hard (paper) copy for electrical backup if computer systems were to go down

11  Practicum began on June 10, 2015 and finished August 10, 2015  Floor nurses were educated on definition of “without and with” contrast exams  Outside offices which had been identified as “offenders” were trained  The electronic manual has been used at a practice site…still working out some of the kinks

12  Work kinks out of electronic manual to make more user friendly  Continue to work with office personnel as needed on correct ordering of tests  Continue to work with health care professionals  Invent ways to change negative attitudes “Its always been done this way” into a positive one

13  Must stay organized and focused on the task at hand  Learning curves: do not get frustrated  Network with colleagues, everybody has a talent and we can learn from each other  Back up your work…if you don’t you may lose it in cyberspace  Most importantly…take a deep breath!!
