A3 2.3 Slope, 3 Forms for Equations of a Line, Intercepts. Homework: p. 255 1-71 EOO, 87

Slope: Guided Practice: Positive Slope: Negative Slope: Zero Slope: Undefined Slope:

3 Forms for Equations 1. Point-Slope Form: - easiest equation to write for a line - need two points, or one point and the slope 2. Slope Intercept Form: - most answers are reported using this form - easiest to use when graphing by hand 3. General Form: - calculator reports answers using this form -A (must be a whole number)

Guided Practice: Write an equation in point-slope form (then convert to slope intercept) for a line passing through (1,5) and having a slope of 2. Write an equation using the point-slope form for a line for the line passing through (4,-3) and (-2,6). Then report your answer in slope intercept form, and general form.

General Intercepts: X-Intercept: when y = 0 Y-Intercept: when x = 0 2 POINTS DEFINE A LINE – GREAT FOR GRAPHING! Guided Practice: Find the slope and the y-intercept of the equation 3x+2y-4=0 by putting into slope- intercept form. Graph the equation by finding both intercepts. Guided Practice: Graph using intercepts: 4x-3y-6=0

More Guided Practice… Find the equation of the line going through the points (2,1) and (3,4). Report the equation in all three forms (slope intercept, point-slope, and general form).

Whiteboard Problems 1. Write the equation of a line with slope of 4 and passing thru (1,3). 2. Write the equation of a line passing thru (3,5) and (8,15). 3. Rewrite the equation in slope intercept form. State the x and y intercepts. Graph, labeling all relevant information (intercepts): 4x + y - 6 = 0 4. Graph the equation using intercepts. Label all relevant information: 6x – 9y – 18 = 0
