3 New Year. New Years Eve is a more important festival in England. People sit the Old Year out and the New Year in. When the clock begins to strike twelve, the head of the family opens the entrance door and holds it until the last stroke. People often decorate their houses with bouquets of mistletoe.

5 Christmas Day. Christmas Day is the most popular bank holiday. Christmas is the yearly celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. It falls on December 25 by the Catholic Church and on the 7th of January by the Orthodox Church. This holiday means the beginning of the new year and the new life

6 Boxing Day The 26 th of December, Boxing Day, is an extra holiday after Christmas. It the time to visit friends and relatives. This day postmen and servants receive their presents in the boxes.

7 Easter. Is a holy day in spring, when Christians remember the death of Christ and his return to life. People exchange dyed eggs, eat kulich.

8 ST.VALENTINE`S DAY ST.VALENTINE`S DAY HAS ROOTS IN LEGENDS. VALENTINE WAS A CHRISTIAN PRIEST.HE LIVED 300 YEARS AFTER THE DEATH OF JESUS CHRIST. ON FEBRUARY,14 VALENTINE WAS KILLED BECAUSE HE HAD MARRID COUPLES CONTRARY TO THE LAWS OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE.

13 GAY FAWKES` DAY November,5 British people light fireworks and burn a guy on a bonfire. This is in memory of the time when Gay Fawkes tried to destroy Parliament in London in 1605. The historical meaning of the occasion is no longer important.
