5 Institutional set up Progress, status and findings  Member engagement: Member organisations have been engaged in line with the stakeholder engagement process and to date we have received comments from 17 out of 23 member organisations.  Members’ feedback: Member’s feedback has consistently focused on a number of key issues including: Institution type - The options for the proposed institutional set up Mandate - Whether ADSG should have an enforcement role and what type? Mission - The extent to which ADSG should provide policy advice? Membership - If it made sense to limit ADSGs remit strictly to Abu Dhabi only? Business planning - The provision of more details, for the products and services and to align these to the strategy including a revenue/funding/costing model. Feedback has been incorporated into Version 0.4 of the discussion document sent to members earlier

7 Communication plan and protocol  Communication task force: A task force was launched in March 2011 with the mandate to produce a communication plan and protocol  Timeline: The expected output will be available before the next FQM

9 AD Annual Sustainability Forum  AD Annual Sustainability Forum task force: A task force was launched in January 2010 with the mandate to produce a draft agenda  Tentative Agenda: A draft agenda was presented by the task force in January 2010. Due to general budget constrains in government entities it was decided to postpone the forum until 2011.  Potential partnerships: The ADSG general Secretariat was approached in February by Abu Dhabi University (ADU) to examine the feasibility of establishing a joint venture to organize an Annual Sustainability Forum. Due to changes in management at AIM, the event management company linked to ADU this option is in stand-by.

11 Flagship programs  Task forces: 4 task forces re-launched in February 2011 to design 4 programs: Sustainable Procurement, Sustainable ICT, Waste Management and Labour Practices.  Progress: Waste management has conducted two meetings in March and April. Labour practices will hold its first meeting in May. Sustainable procurement will hold its first meeting in May. Sustainable ICT will hold a meeting in April with ADSIC and EAD to agree on how to move forward.  Action plan & report on progress: The programs are expected to present their action plans and report on progress before the next FQM.  Outputs: The programs are expected to present key outputs before the end of the year during the CEO/MD meeting.

13 Guidance, Training and Support  Guidance: A handbook on sustainability management and a self- assessment tool to determine the level of maturity of members organizations will be produced in 2011.  Training and Support: A training and support program to develop the capabilities of members to adopt a systematic approach to sustainability management and reporting and to provide support to new members to deliver their first sustainability reports before 30th June 2012 will be launched before the next FQM.

15 International cooperation Partnerships: 3 partnerships to be concluded in 2011: – Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), a Netherlands based multi-stakeholder network that develops and disseminates one of the world's most prevalent standards for sustainability reporting. The partnership will be focused in becoming a GRI-certified training provider to help ADSG members to deliver on their commitment to produce annual sustainability reports. – International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), a Canadian- based, public policy research institute. The partnership will be focused in using the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Index as a basis to engage government entities, private companies and not for profit organizations to agree on the sustainability issues and recommended actions to contribute to achieve Abu Dhabi Vision 2030. – Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI) Europe and Marrakech Task Force on Sustainable Public Procurement (SPP), an international initiative to promote sustainable public procurement in developing and developed countries launched by the government of Switzerland in 2005, as one of seven Task Forces under the Marrakech Process on Sustainable Consumption and Production, which is lead by UNEP and UNDESA. The partnership will be focused in getting technical assistance to design and implement initiatives to enable the local government to embrace best practices regarding sustainable procurement through the adaptation to the local context of existing toolkits such as the Status Assessment tool for national governments or the development of new tools.

17 Seminars: Hiwar sessions were successfully launched in April 2011. Joint seminars: The General Secretariat is examining the feasibility of organising joint Hiwar Sessions with the academic community to avoid “seminar fatigue”.

19 I ADSG to become an independent, not-for-profit org. according to option C (3) of the discussion paper (v 0.4). II ADSG to promote voluntary action by members. III ADSG to have an advisory policy role. Decisions to be adopted Institutional set up (discussion paper v 0.4) IV ADSG membership to be wider than Abu Dhabi where appropriate. V ADSG remaining details to be addressed at a 2 or 3 day member planning session. The Group to approve 5 decisions regarding the institutional set up:

20 I Approval to transform the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group into an independent institution II Approval to fund launching and strengthening of this institution with AED M21.62 III Approval to mandate the related departments from the General Secretariat of the Executive Council - Abu Dhabi to study and support the development of the legal formation of the foreseen institution in cooperation with ADSG Decisions to be adopted Implementation of recommended institutional set up The Group to request AGSEC to action three recommendations to implement the institutional set up:

21 I The communication task force to conclude the communication plan and protocol before the next FQM. II III Decisions to be adopted Activities 2011 The GS to examine the feasibility of holding the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Forum in the last quarter 2011. The program task forces to deliver progress reports before the next FQM and outputs before the end of the year. IV The GS to develop a Guidance, Training and Support Program to assist new member before the next FQM. The GS to develop and approach to enhance the value to members of the Hiwar sessions and other outreach activities. V The Group to approve 5 decisions regarding the action plan 2011:
