5 Training Agenda/Goals Increase understanding of how the CANS can be used by supervisors to improve outcomes for children and families Develop specific skills for utilizing the CANS to: –Improve treatment decisions –Match treatment with needs and strengths –Improve level of care decisions –Inform Discharge Planning –Measure/ Discuss Progress –Increase communication with the team –Review treatment plans and crisis plans

6 3 Uses of the Tool Decision Support (as related to treatment planning) Ensures clinically appropriate decisions are made consistently in the service delivery process. Quality Improvement Activities Ensures that potentially effective interventions are provided when needed: needs are assessed accurately and delivered timely. Outcomes Monitoring Informs clinicians, administrators and evaluators about the impact of the intervention.

7 When I know the actual need I can be more creative in utilizing the strengths to meet the needs and empower the youth and families we serve. I become the detective looking for clues and I begin to learn the real needs and have concrete facts to work with.
