3 Background Mission Critical Facilities Protection Protection of mission critical facilities against a fire event is achieved through: -Early intervention (initiated by VEW) -Suppression (initiated by VEW/EW) Conventional practice for suppression system actuation: -Conventional spot-type smoke detectors in a “Coincidence Detection” arrangement

9 Use of ASAT Calculator ASAT Calculator Fire threshold value – predominantly used for Suppression system actuation with a pre-engineered VESDA coincidence detection scheme – But it may also be used for: – Evacuation annunciation and procedure – Fire Brigade notification – HVAC system shutdown or conversion to smoke mode – Automated equipment shutdown
