4 exercise do not need special equipment or formal exercise program based at a gym… just need to CONSISTENTLY flex muscles and engage in activity that strengthens your heart & lungs regular exercise makes you stronger, more energetic, and in better overall health—you will have the energy to do all the things you want or need to do

5 exercise exercise helps build lean muscle mass if you don’t exercise while you diet, you will lose both fat and lean muscle mass diet without exercise is less effective than diet and exercise combined Fat Head discussion

6 personal fitness plan 3 parts: aerobic fitness, muscle strengthening & endurance, flexibility aerobic fitness—brisk walking, running, stair climbing, biking, swimming, dance, etc…...make our heart & lungs work at full capacity muscle strengthening & endurance—chin- ups, push-ups, leglifts, pilates etc… …improves performance, prevents fatigue, improves posture, feel more energetic

7 personal fitness plan flexibility—warm up & cool down stretching and yoga …moves a joint through its full range of motion, reduces stiffness & pain

8 rest, relaxation & renewal rest: when we get too busy, stressed & are schedules are too full we cut back on rest why rest? relaxation: an opportunity to reduce tension and anxiety by having a slower pace & incorporating a sense of joy into our lives why relax? what do YOU do to relax?

9 rest, relaxation & renewal renewal: finding meaning through purpose or contribution—inner self needs exercise & rest requires that we set aside time for this—an opportunity for contemplation & reflection ?

10 fitness & rest participation activity: little by little pg. 145 identify small changes in your eating and fitness habits that you would be willing to make follow through on 3-4 changes & document the experience on pg. 146
