Matthew 26:26-29 Matthew 26:26-29 26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, "Take, eat; this is My body." 27 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. 28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. 29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father's kingdom."

John 14:2 2 In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

 Famine is almost unknown in Canada  We have been blessed beyond description!  We have been the envy of the world many times  Conditions can chance very drastically!  Some are saying that we are facing a depression again! * Consider the seven years of Famine in Egypt. * Only Joseph (a man of God) saved that nation!

Amos 8:11 “ Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord God, “That I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of hearing the words of the Lord.

 The Famine Of This Text Is Different!  This is a famine of the Word of God  We are accustomed to an abundance here also  Still, famine could come through indifference * There are signs of such indifference in Canada. * The church is very small in this country. * Not many are willing to hear and receive God's Word What Would It Mean To Have a Famine for the Word Of God?

 A Nation Without The Bible Is Without Freedom!

 ( John 8:32) “the Truth shall make you free”  It is impossible to enslave a Bible reading people (Horace Greely)  No wonder tyrants hate the Bible. * History reveals the Bible brings freedom! (Israel in OT) * The development of a nation base on the Bible! * God’s preservation of the nation even in war (Israel in OT times)

 A Nation Without The Bible Is Without Freedom!  Solid Bible preaching keeps us alerts to freedom values.  2 Tim 4:2 … Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. This country is loosing all moral values and we must be concern about that, this is not a laughable matter!

 A Nation Without The Bible Is Without Freedom!  Solid Bible preaching keeps us alerts to freedom values.  Acts 20:27 For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God.  Hiding the truth will not help anyone. The only way that we can help a nation in Famine like Joseph in Egypt is by telling people the sin that they are living in!

 A Nation Without The Bible Is Without Freedom!  Bible reading people keep freedom alive in daily life!  Acts 17:11… These were more fair- minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.

 A Nation Without The Bible Is Without Freedom!  Bible reading people keep freedom alive in daily life!  2 Tim 3:15 … and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

 A Nation Without The Bible Is Without Freedom!  Bible reading people keep freedom alive in daily life!  John 5:39… You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.

 A Nation Without The Bible Is Without Foundations!

 Matthew 7:24-29 24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” 28 And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, 29 for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

 A Nation Without The Bible Is Without Foundations!  The life or Land built of the Bible stands  God’s Word provides a solid foundation. * 2 Tim 2: 19 Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ[a] depart from iniquity.”

 A Nation Without The Bible Is Without Foundations!  Building on the Bible we withstand life’s storms! * Matthew 7:25 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. All this is equal to problems and adversities in life!

 A Nation Without The Bible Is Without Foundations!  Apart from The Bible there are NO Absolutes.  Everything becomes relative.  No one knows what’s right and wrong! Jeremiah 4:22 “For My people are foolish, They have not known Me. They are silly children, And they have no understanding. They are wise to do evil, But to do good they have no knowledge.” Isaiah 1:3 The ox knows its owner And the donkey its master’s crib; But Israel does not know, My people do not consider.”

 A Nation Without The Bible Is Without Foundations!  The Bible provides a moral compass * A moral compass for individuals * A moral compass for a nation 1 Thess 5:21-22 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil. Deut 26:19 and that He will set you high above all nations which He has made, in praise, in name, and in honor, and that you may be a holy people to the Lord your God, just as He has spoken.”

 A Nation Without The Bible Is Without Foundations!  Me Must Get Back To The Bible! * To neglect the Bible is to starve the soul * Results are the same as being in a FAMINE!

 A Nation Without The Bible Is Without FAITH!  Romans 10:17 * Paul describes this problem in his own nation. Rom 10:1-4 * A zeal of God, but not according to knowledge * They were ignorant of God’s righteousness. Romans 10:1-4 Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel[a] is that they may be saved. 2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

 A Nation Without The Bible Is Without FAITH!  Only the Bible imparts the seed of faith * Jesus describes the Word of God as the seed Luke 8:11. * Born again of incorruptible seed 1 Pet 1:23. * Great National wealth is found in the faith of it’s people Luke 8: 11 “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 1 Peter 1:23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,

 Are you hungry for the word of God?  Devour it while it is available  Share the Scriptures and Prevent a National Famine.  Hard days are coming very soon!  Do you want to become a Christian today?  Do you want to confess any sins today to the Lord?
