Hello and welcome to the IPD webinar. The aim of this webinar is to inform members of the IPD scheme and the different processes it has, to explain about skills development portoflio and open assessment and the final stage, the peer review interview. I will also give you a brief guide to the IPD microsite. We will have time for questions at the end of the presentation and at the end of the demonstration

2 Initial Professional Development (IPD)
IPD is the assessment process that every member goes through before they become a Chartered Member. The process ensures that all members are assessed for their Knowledge, Skills and Experience. As there are a number of qualifications available to qualify initially the IPD process varies for each individual member. Only our Graduate members are able to progress towards Chartered status. IPD is the one-off assessment process that everyone goes through in order to become a Chartered Member. By passing the assessment, you're demonstrating your competence, knowledge, skills and experience. Chartered membership is recognised across industry as being the pinnacle of the health and safety profession.

3 Initial Professional Development
(IPD) IPD enrolment is for a maximum of 2 years and the current fee is £160.00 Members who do not complete within 2 years will be asked to re-register If in doubt contact Membership on In order to start the IPD scheme you will need to register first – the fee for registering is currently £ This gives you two years in which to complete the process. 4 The IPD Process Skills Development Portfolio (SDP)
Open Assessment (OA) Peer Review Interview (PRI) You may be asked to complete both the SDP and the OA - it will depend on the qualification that gave you Graduate status You will always be asked to a PRI There are a number of qualifications that we accredit for Graduate membership and depending on what qualification you hold will depend on what process you complete. Those members who hold an accredited academic qualification will be asked to complete the SDP, those who hold a NVQ qualification will be asked to completed the OA , and in some circumstances others may be asked to complete both. Regardless of which process you complete the final stage is the Peer Review interview

Seven criteria from five elements - members choose 1 criterion from elements 1 to 3 and 2 criterion from elements 4 and 5 Weighted towards Health and Safety The SDP is an online scheme – you start off by choosing seven criteria from five elements ……….. And we are looking for evidence on how you put your H&S knowledge into practice

6 Skills Development Portfolio (SDP)
Each criteria consists of: Outline/Background and intended outcomes section, Indexed evidence, and Reflective Account Evidence can be up to 2 years old at point of submission Guidance gives minimum requirements for activities and evidence for each criteria For each criteria you need to complete an outline background section – the minimum activities and evidence, and a reflective account that covers each criteria. There is guidance on how to complete these on the microsite. Submitted evidence cannot be older than two years from the date of submission.

7 Skills Development Portfolio (SDP)
Portfolios are assessed by qualified assessors If further evidence is required the Assessor will let you know Criteria are assessed within 2-3 weeks of submission You cannot fail the SDP. If your criteria is assessed and found it is not quite right, the assessor will provide you with feedback on where the shortfalls are and what you need to address them. You just re-submit the criteria until it has been approved. The feedback and approval notification is found on the MyMessage page of the microsite, we will not contact you so it is important that you check this page on a regular basis.

8 Open Assessment (OA) Now online and takes place on the third Wednesday of every month Exam Period is two weeks but you have seven days in which to complete it once started New format includes Degree-level questions Two part test - 48 multiple choice questions marked on-line - 2 scenario based questions marked by an examiner The open assessment is now available on line and we hold them ………………. The exam period is for two weeks so you do not have to start it right away however once you do press Start Part A you will only have seven days in which to complete the assessment so make sure you leave yourself time – don’t start it with only two days left as that is all you will have. Part A is …….. And you are given three hours to complete it. Do not press finalise and submit to IOSH until you have completed all 48 questions as once they are submitted they are marked.

9 Open Assessment (OA) Part A questions are marked by the computer and you will get your results immediately Part B questions are marked by examiners and you will get your results by post two weeks after the close of the assessment period. If you pass Part A you can attempt Part B If you fail Part A you have re-register and try Part A again If you fail Part B you have to re-register but you do not have to take Part A again Maximum 4 attempts allowed The system marks Part A answers immediately so you will know if you have passed or not. If you have passed you will have access to Part B. Once you complete Part A the clock starts ticking down the seven days or the amount of time you have left. These questions are marked by examiners and you will get the results posted to you a fortnight after the end of the assessment period ………..

10 Peer Review Interviews (PRI)
Members must have up to date CPD which will be audited before the Interview Interview Fee Grange £95 External Presentation – 10 minutes max Employment History Set of Core and supplementary questions are asked Interview administrator present to record and take notes We will write to you once you have successfully completed the IPD process. The next step is to have your CPD audited so it is important that whilst you are completing your IPD that you continue to update and review your CPD. If your CPD passes the audit you will be invited to contact us to arrange a Peer review interview. Four weeks before the interview you need to send us a presentation and your employment history, this information goes to the panel for them to review. If we do not receive it by that date your interview may need to be rebooked. There are a set of core questions that all candidates get asked and these can be found on the MyIOSh, MyIPD, peer review interviews, core questions (found half way down the page in blue) The Panel is made up of three members, one Chair and two members, there will also be an administrator in the room to record and take notes of the interview. You are allowed to take bullet point notes into the interview as an aide memoire however these will be reviewed by the administrator on the day and if they feel they are too detailed they will have to take them off you

11 Peer Review Interviews (PRI)
If successful members become Chartered Members CMIOSH If unsuccessful, Feedback is given and members can ask for the transcript of the interview and the notes from the Panel 92% of people going to interview pass first time The results of the PRI will be sent out to you within 21 day (normally quicker than that). If you have passed you will receive your CMIOSH certificate in the post with your notification letter. We also send you an with the CMIOSH logo in that you are now entitled to use. If you are referred you will receive feedback and you can request a copy of the transcript of the interview and the notes made by the panel. Our pass rate is currently 92%
