Notes taken from this week can not be uploaded due to the copyright laws. Students who did not copy detailed notes either need to attend tutorials or study Chapter 11, section 3 of the biology book. BIOLOGY MRS. TATE MEIOSIS WEEK OF ¾- 3/8-13

Biology: Demonstrate an understanding of cellular division of sex cells ( gametes). 1.Bell Ringer 42 ( Dihybrid Crosses)- Teacher demonstrates by doing number 1, students do number 2 independently 2.Engage: Meiosis Introduction 3.Notes: Meiosis 4.Students will write a summary over how sex cells divide in their science journals 5.Closure: Share your writings ( random selections) 3-4-13 MONDAY Weekly Agenda T- continue with meiosis W Comparison of Mitosis and Meiosis Th- Test ( Meiosis and Genetics) F- I am my own twin ( q/a with video)

 Meiosis Animation #1 Meiosis Animation #1 MEIOSIS

Biology: Demonstrate an understanding of cellular division of sex cells (gametes). 1.Bell Ringer 43 2.Notes: Meiosis Continued 3.Students will write a summary over how sex cells divide AND how do the two processes differ in their science journals 4.Closure: Share your writings ( random selections) Weekly Agenda W Comparison of Mitosis and Meiosis Thur- Test ( Meiosis and Genetics) F- I am my own twin ( q/a with video) 3-5-13 TUESDAY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCLmR9-YY7o Now Quick Write: Students will write a summary over how sex cells divide AND how do the two processes differ in their science journals Closure: Share your writings ( random selections) MEIOSIS CRASH COURSE

Biology: Demonstrate an understanding of cellular division of sex cells (gametes). 1.Bell Ringer 44 2.Comparing Mitosis to Meiosis – work with your desk mate ONLY to check each other responses; work independently 3.Closure: Share your answers ( random students chosen ) Weekly Agenda Th- Test ( Meiosis and Genetics)- hope you have been studying! F- I am my own twin ( q/a with video) 3-6-13

Biology: Demonstrate an understanding of cellular division of sex cells (gametes) and genetics 1.Place journals on self for grading. Place your belongings on the black lab tables and take only a pencil /pen to your seat. 2.Test: Genetics and Meiosis 3.If you finish early, finish your comparison of cell cycles and turn them in. ( which you should have completed at home. Due date is today! Place in the assignment tray before you exit! Weekly Agenda Fri- I am my own twin ( q/a with video) Evolution vocab: Given out tomorrow. Complete over and study during spring break. Vocabulary test on 3/20/13. Testing Strategy: Breakdown illustrations Read the question twice. Underline the sentence, box important words. Notes, make them to the side about what you remember. Cancel out two wrong answer choices Hand pick the best answer. 3-7-13 THURSDAY

Biology: demonstrate an understanding that errors occur during fertilization / genetic exchange. 1.Engage: Discussion 2.I am my own twin 3.Quick write 4.Closure: Vocabulary Terms ( 5 min) Reminders: Extra Credit #1 ( on website, due 3/20) Extra Credit #2 – on back board Vocabulary Quiz- 3/20/13 Wednesday ( ch 15 terms) 3-8-13

We have learned that a mutation occurs when there is a mistake or an error made in any genetic information ( wrong amount of chromosomes, sequencing of the nitrogen bases changes, or even where genes or located). Now after learning about cellular reproduction, we know when body cells undergo rapid, uncontrolled growth that’s considered cancer. Meiosis is the reproduction of gametes. When a sperm enters an egg that’s called fertilization and a zygote forms. But what if some sort of error occurs during fertilization….what if a person who is pregnant with fraternal twins somehow learns that those twins merged to become one individual? Could that happen? And if so how would this effect a person? ENGAGE

If more than a third of the earths human populations were considered chimeras, how would this impact: a.The medical field b.The forensic ( criminal investigation ) fields c.How would it effect your families genealogy years from now? Write on a separate sheet of paper, NOT in your journals. QUICK WRITE
