3 Who found it The Great Barrier Reef was found by Captain James Cook in 1770 when his ship hit land (this is called ran a shore). The Endeavour (his ship) managed to stay afloat for a week before finding cook town to land and repair. The repairs took 2 months.

4 These fish are known for there wonderful rainbow patterns and gracefulness through the water. They eat coral. When they find a partner it’s a partner for life. They are 12-14 cm long but they been seen at 25 cm long. Damsel fish are often found in large group called a school above large heads of staghorn coral. By the snap of a finger they will dart to cover. They are 6-14 cm long. The male will protect the eggs and his bite feels like a pinch.

5 The Great Barrier Reef is 500,000 years old. The great barrier reef is actually made up of smaller reefs. Reefs form underwater. Reefs are usually made out of coral sand and rock. Reef are found 250 feet blow the surf of the water. It covers roughly 80,000 square miles of the sea. You will also find sponges, anemones shell star fish urchins.there are 618 island in the Great Barrier Reef. Coral is made up of living animals called polyps.
