1 Egyptian Theatre By: Mariah Scott

2 Time Period The first theatre evidence dates back to 3500 B.C.E. Some major characteristics of Egyptian theatre are that most of the plays were based on stories from the Gods, life, seasons. Most of which were recorded by hieroglyphics and wall paintings.

3 Music Unfortunately we have not discovered a lot information about ancient Egyptian theatre. But, what we do know is that they had hand-made rattles. They consisted of ivory sticks that were tied together. They also had harps, flute, clarinet, cymbals, trumpets, percussions, and the lute. 4 Performances Dancers were usually minimally dressed. They simply wore a necklaces, a belt and cloth. But most of the time they were in the nude. The woman would usually have perfume cones on their heads while they performed. Backdrops as well as statues were used as props. 5 Who? Actors were usually priests and elders. Supernatural figures- costumes, make-up Ra: Sun GodSobek:Nile God Anubis: Death God

6 Where? Plays were held in temples, some of the specific types were creation stories, symbolic dances, ballets.

7 Why? Most of their plays were used as tribute to their Gods. It also served as a way to teach younger people about life lessons. The egyptian theatre has continued today in a modern version. Sadly the authenticity will never be fully matched as we have not yet discovered the many secrets that Egypt has to offer.
