2 WHAT IS SYSTEMS ENGINEERING? Systems Engineering is an interdisciplinary approach and means to enable the realization of successful systems. Systems Engineering is concerned with the overall process of defining, developing, operating, maintaining, and ultimately replacing quality systems. Systems Engineering integrates all the disciplines and specialty groups into a team effort forming a structured development process that proceeds from concept to production to operation.

3 WHAT DO SYSTEMS ENGINEERINGS DO? Systems Engineers concentrate their efforts on the aspects of the engineering process (requirements definition, top-level functional designs, project management, life cycle cost analysis,...) that serve to organize and coordinate other engineering activities. The Systems Engineer is the primary interface between management, customers, suppliers, and specialty engineers in the systems development process.

4 WHAT QUALITIES DOES A SYSTEMS ENGINEERING NEED? Technical Quantitative skills Aptitude for systems thinking Creative problem solving Managerial Continuous drive for improvement Strong time management skills Excellent communication/salesmanship Leadership skills Ethics
