“The Journey to The Promised Land” ~ Pastor Solomon Liu ECC – EKC English Service March 5th, 2006

Scripture Reading ~ Pastor Solomon Liu Exodus 16

The Journey to the Promised Land 1 Corinthian 10:1-11 For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them,

The Journey to the Promised Land and that rock was Christ. Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered over the desert. Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did… v. 11 These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come.

The Journey to the Promised Land # 1. This is not our __________.destination

The Journey to the Promised Land Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the desert these 40 years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what’s in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. Deuteronomy 8:2

The Journey to the Promised Land Then the Lord said to Moses, I will rain down bread form heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions. Exodus 16:4.

The Journey to the Promised Land … to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. Deuteronomy 8:3

The Journey to the Promised Land

# 1. This is not our destination. Q: How have your wilderness experiences help you grow in your character?

The Journey to the Promised Land # 2. God can be ____________________.trusted as our provider

The Journey to the Promised Land Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Matthew 6:25-26

The Journey to the Promised Land 'Each one is to gather as much as he needs. Take an omer for each person you have in your tent.' …” Then Moses said to them, "No one is to keep any of it until morning." Exodus.16: 16 & 19

The Journey to the Promised Land And in the morning you will see the glory of the LORD, because he has heard your grumbling against him. … Moses also said, "You will know that it was the LORD when he gives you meat to eat in the evening and all the bread you want in the morning, because he has heard your grumbling against him. Who are we? You are not grumbling against us, but against the LORD." Exodus 16:7–8

The Journey to the Promised Land “The rabble with them began to crave other food, and again the Israelites started wailing and said, "If only we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost — also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!" Numbers 11:5-6

The Journey to the Promised Land # 2. God can be trusted as our provider. Q: In your prayer life, does your supplication outweigh your thanksgiving?

The Journey to the Promised Land # 3. Jesus is our ______________.true satisfaction

The Journey to the Promised Land I am the bread of life. Your forefathers ate the manna in the desert, yet they died. But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may eat and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." John 6 48-51

The Journey to the Promised Land Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. John 6:27

The Journey to the Promised Land # 3. Jesus is our true satisfaction. Q: Where do you find your Satisfaction?

The Journey to the Promised Land So, as the Holy Spirit says: "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the desert, where your fathers tested and tried me and for forty years saw what I did. Hebrew 3:7-9
