12 Writing a check 1. Use a non-erasable pen! 2. Write your name in the upper left. 3. Write the check number in the upper right. The first check you write will be 101. Your name and the check numbers are already printed on real checks.

13 4. Write the name of the Payee on the “Pay to the Order of” line. 5. Write the amount of the check in the small box. Be sure you include the decimal point and the number of cents. 6. On the full line, write the amount in words. Write the number of cents as a fraction with 100 as the denominator. Example: $112.35 = one hundred twelve and 35/100 7. On the “For” line, write a note explaining what the check is for. 8. Sign the check.
