5 How do we support you with your child’s transition into school? July 2015 Meeting for all new parents Children have the opportunity to spend an afternoon in their new classroom. Visits to your child’s nursery setting September 2015 Home Visits Phased start to school Ongoing Support Parent workshops focusing on key aspects of the curriculum. (phonics, reading, early maths)

6 In KS1 and KS2 ….. Key Stage 1 – age 5-7 Key Stage 2 - age 7-11 Maths, English and Science (core subjects). Topics planned for interest and enjoyment and focused around the foundation subjects. These include Science, Geography, History, Art, RE, Music, Citizenship, Personal Social and Emotional Health (PSHE) and MFL.

7 How many adults and children are in each class? Early Years (age 4 – 5) one teacher and one teaching assistant per class of 30 children. An extra teaching assistant between three classes. Key Stage 1 (age 5-7) one teacher and one teaching assistant per class of 30 children. Key Stage 2 (age 7-11) one teacher per class of 32 children and a minimum of one teaching assistant per year group, though this adjusted according to need.

8 How will I know what progress my child is making? Next step targets sent home to parents each term Progress shared termly in Reading, Writing and Maths Ideas for how parents could help at home

9 My child is a shy/quiet learner. Could he/she be overlooked? Each child has a target for progress. Children have next steps targets. Targets reviewed every half term in Pupil Progress Review meetings. Teacher’s planning, use of additional adults and resources are reviewed to meet the needs of each child.

10 What if there are concerns about my child’s learning or behaviour? Ms Earl – SENCo Early identification. Pupil Progress Reviews to discuss child’s needs (children needing additional challenge or support)

12 What extra-curricular clubs does the school offer? Basketball Drama Drums Football Cross Country Gymnastics Pastry club Athletics Art Korfball Hockey Knitting

13 What other opportunities does the school offer? At least one ‘out of school’ curriculum-linked trip per term. One week residential trip to Sayers Croft in Year 4. One week residential trip to France in Year 6. Music lessons through Bromley Youth Music Trust.

15 Do you have childcare provision? Breakfast at Brinkley’s (breakfast club) Hub Club (after school club) Both clubs are run by Hayes Primary Staff

16 How can parents get involved in school? Parent Teacher Association School Volunteer programme Class assemblies Year group celebrations (Harvest Festival, Christmas Nativity and Carol concerts, Christingle, Victorian Tea Party and end of year production Y6, whole school PTA picnic).
