1 SPONSORED BY: CAMPBELL COUNTY YOUTH, ADULT, & COMMUNITY SERVICES + CAMPBELL COUNTY COOPERATIVE EXTENSION Campbell County Youth Advisory Council

2 Purpose Mission: The mission of the Campbell County Youth Advisory Council is to explore, communicate, and serve the needs, problems, and issues affecting youth in Campbell County regardless of race, gender, or socio-economic level. Description: To investigate needs, problems, and issues affecting the youth of Campbell County. To provide a forum through which youth may express ideas and community needs, brainstorm ways to fix those needs, and plan service activities for their school, community, and peers. To serve as youth advocates and work with the Superintendent, County Administrator, School Board, Board of Supervisors, and the citizens of Campbell County to address the needs of the community.

3 Make-Up: Responsibilities: 2 students from each Campbell County Public School + 1 student from the Alternative School (total- 9) 2 students that are home- schooled 2 students from private school (Must live in Campbell County) 4-H & YACS Staff 1 Community Mentor from each district (total- 7) Attend at least one Board of Supervisors meeting during the year. Promote the Campbell County Youth Advisory Council in schools and community. Work to raise the consciousness of youth issues in the Campbell County area. Participate in youth awareness and fundraising activities. Expectations

4 Requirements Qualifications: Campbell County resident High school student in grades 9 through 12 C average GPA or better Interest in community service Interest in representing youth and in developing leadership qualities Commit to attend a day retreat, monthly meetings, & various scheduled activities Parental awareness, consent, and support

5 What is the Meeting Set-up? Each month the council will learn the needs of the community, local non-profits that meet those needs, local service-driven organizations, event-planning skills, leadership skills, and recognition for their service. Meetings will vary between:  Speakers on the importance of being involved in the community to help meet the needs of the citizens.  Lessons in identifying community needs, managing local and state government, managing businesses, identifying persons that have needs and figuring out how to help them.  Field trips to places/organizations that serve the citizens  Planning and Implementing Service Project Activities.
