2 Educational and Background Ben Gauser went to the University of Missouri for one year before realizing that a University did not suit his desires, so he began taking Paramedic classes at JCCC.

3 Job Requirements be at least 18 years of age provide evidence of high school diploma, or equivalent provide evidence of certification as a Kansas Mobile Intensive Care Technician (Paramedic) or be registered as an EMT-Paramedic by the National Registry of EMTs. provide evidence of a valid driver's license and a safe driving record have no psychological or physical impairments that would prevent completion of duties listed in job description

4 Job Trends etc. As a paramedic you have ranks that you can acquire while work for Med Act. The higher you move up the you get paid. Another position you can train for while being a paramedic is Battalion Chief which oversees a whole district. 24 hour shifts: 1 day on, 1 day off, for 3 working shifts; then 4 days off; every 6th work day is a 12 hour shift.

5 Job Benefits Vacation: 5 days/year for 24 hour personnel, beginning after 6 months of employment, higher vacation rates apply after 5 and 10 years of service. Sick Leave: 5.5days/year for 24 hour personnel. Flexible Benefit Plan: $50.00/month non-taxable allocation toward health/dental insurance, deferred compensation, dependent and/or medical reimbursement bank. Paid Holidays: All personnel receive 9 official holidays and 2-3 additional floating holidays. Holidays worked are compensated at double time. Holidays not worked are compensated with a maximum of 5 days comp time. Uniforms: Provided by the department initially and annual replacement allowance thereafter. Life Insurance: Policy equal to 50% of yearly salary provided by County. Additional amounts available by payroll deduction. Retirement: Kansas Police and Fire Retirement System with additional contributions to 457 matched by County up to 3.0% of salary.

6 Medication Box The medication box contains a large array of common medications and tools to help aid in any situation, including IV’s bandages, and many other useful tools and medications.

7 Portable Oxygen System This is used if while in the field someone needs to be on oxygen and cannot make it to the hospital without it.

8 EMT Monitor This is used if a patient’s vitals need to be closely monitored while on the way to the hospital
