4 What do Forensic Scientists do? Forensic scientists assist the police in finding or eliminating a suspect in a crime through the application of scientific knowledge. They are usually specialists in an area such as DNA analysis, firearms examination or toxicology.

5 Main Tasks… examine crime scenes to uncover evidence analyze physical evidence such as fibres, glass, debris, firearms, bullets and marks made by tools or weapons identify drugs or poisons found on people, in body fluids or at crime scenes analyze biological evidence such as hair, blood and body fluids write reports on result findings and may appear in court to testify as a professional expert

6 Requirements for becoming a Forensic Scientist In high school, you should take helpful courses such as: AP Chemistry, Biology, Physics, English, & Calculus A four-year bachelor's degree in biological or physical sciences or in forensic technology

7 Other requirements Many forensic scientists have master’s or doctorate degrees in their area of specialty. Criminal justice Criminal law and procedure Evidence Forensic anthropology Forensic or organic chemistry Genetics Instrumental analysis Statistics

8 Forensic Scientist Salary According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, experienced forensic scientists earn between $35,000 and $50,000 per year. Federal salaries are usually higher. Other venues say: Average Salary = $60,706.12

9 Conclusion… Education can be very expensive and a lot of hard work, but getting into a career you enjoy will be very rewarding in the end.
