10 Stage II: objective 2 Develop the curricular and organizational frameworks to bring the vision to fruition

11 Vision themes  Educators as researchers - Preparing teachers to approach their work in the spirit of disciplined inquiry and lifelong learning  Reaching diverse learners - Preparing teachers to address the needs of diverse learners  Assessment-focused practice - Preparing teachers to understand data, use assessment to inform their practice, and make evidence-based evaluative decisions

12 Vision themes  The global educator - Preparing teachers to bring a global perspective to their teaching  The digital age educator - Preparing teachers to excel in a digital world and to possess instructional strategies that will help students meet the needs of a 21st century workforce  ‘Critical realist’ orientation - Preparing teachers to engage the organizational circumstances of their workplace, continuously reappraise the status quo, and strive toward improved outcomes for their students

13 Curriculum work groups  Four groups comprised of:  CoE faculty and academic staff  Other UIUC faculty/staff who work in teacher education  P-12 teachers  Program graduates  Current students  Co-facilitators  One CoE faculty member who works in teacher education  One CoE faculty member who works outside teacher education

14 Curriculum work groups: charge  Identify the essential elements necessary to achieve the vision of “the Illinois educator” for each of the six themes  Knowledge  Skills  Dispositions  Experiences  Begin to discuss how these should be organized for delivery  Begin to identify how these should be assessed

15 Curriculum work groups: challenge  Think in terms of all UI teacher candidates  Bring collective expertise and experience to bear  Consider operational contexts, but do not be unduly constrained by them
