11 www.torbaydevelopmentagency.co.uk Summary of Previous Public Consultation February 2008: Previous Mayor’s Vision launched, including ideas for Princess Promenade and private sector investment 2008 – 2010: TDA received several proposals for Princess Promenade, mostly too large & inappropriate February 2010: TDA and Nicholas James Group presented outline proposals to Tormohun Community Partnership May 2010: Nicholas James Group presented revised proposals to Tormohun Community Partnership February 2011: TDA updated Torquay Town Centre Community Partnership

12 www.torbaydevelopmentagency.co.uk Summary of Previous Public Consultation May 2011: The new Mayor stipulates no development on the Promenade between the Pavilion and the theatre July 2011: Full Council agree to investigate a Council funded repairing option with an envisaged life of 25 years (i.e. to 2036) –Estimated cost £3m –Annual cost to the Council for 25 years is £225,000 –TDA asked to continue searching for private sector investment and wider regeneration of the area. September 2011: Presentation of outline proposals to elected Council members

Decision to spend deferred – rescheduled for October 2011 Mayor requests both developers present to public before October Council meeting In summary, the promenade is our shop window and it needs to be befitting of a leading resort. It plays an important role in our tourism economy which remains extremely weak and vulnerable.
