3 Application Process CSU/UC Start Process Early – online CSU http://www.csumentor.edu/ - complete high school planner http://www.csumentor.edu/ Application will also require: – Official Transcripts – Official Test Scores (SAT send to code #3954.) UC http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu Application will also require: – Two Personal Statements (1,000 total words) – Additional Comments – Official Transcript – Official Test Scores (SAT send to only one campus all will get it. ACT send to all campuses) Application for Financial Aid for CCC/CSU/UC will require: - FAFSA http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

4 Application Process Private Colleges Every school has own process – need to go to its website for requirements & application If available, register as an interested student Check if they use the Common Application https://www.commonapp.org Recommended if available Application will also require: – Personal College Essay – Required Supplemental Essays (varies by college) – Teacher Letter of Recommendations – SSR: Secondary School Report (Through counselor) – MYR: Mid Year Report (Through Counselor) – Official Transcripts – Official Test Scores Application for Financial Aid may require: - CSS Profile – CollegeBoard website - FAFSA EVERY School has its OWN DEADLINES!

5 Naviance How do I get to Naviance? – www.sequoiahs.org www.sequoiahs.org – Under quick links, click on Naviance website What do I need to use Naviance for? – Create a list of “Colleges I Am Applying To” Under “College” Tab – Ordering official transcripts – Requesting SSR & MYR – Requesting Letters of Recommendations – Complete FERPA Waiver box Blue box under “Colleges I Am Applying To “ For Common Application ONLY- links to Common App via username & password Allows us to send student information to Common Application Recommend Waive Rights What else can I use Naviance for? – Researching colleges – Organizing college admissions process – Researching scholarships – Signing up for college rep visits – Receiving emails & updates – Parents can also have accounts – especially if you have younger students at SQ

6 Still Deciding? Ways to Communicate with Colleges Go to school’s website – under prospective students or admissions College Fair – Canada’s Oct 27 th 530-830PM CollegeWeekLive - http://www.collegeweeklive.com/http://www.collegeweeklive.com/

7 After the Application You should receive an email confirmation that a school received your application Set up “portal” for each school AND some schools may require an email account through their school Make sure your email is correct and professional on application Follow all directions: Send Scores, Transcripts etc (Deadlines and requests may vary between individual students) Check your account frequently: Students are responsible for monitoring their progress (at least once a week!)
