© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 2 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Topics Generating quantities in Design & Computation Manager (D&C Manager) Exporting quantities to Quantity Manager Setting project preferences in Quantity Manager Importing pay items and funding from Trns*port into Quantity Manager Adding manual quantities Creating reports of quantities Exporting quantities to Trns*port

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 3 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Workflow Philosophy Design project using D&C Manager and/or Civil Platform geometry with features. Tag those elements that are to be quantified based on a chain other than the main baseline chain with an adhoc attribute defining the chain. Check quantities as the project progresses to ensure accuracy. Create shapes for odd area quantities. Export CAD quantities to Quantity Manager and add manual quantities. Generate reports in Quantity Manager and export quantities to Trns*port.

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 4 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Quantity Manager Workflow Quantities from design files –Create –Update –Delete Non-graphic quantities (manually calculated) –Add adhocs Create reports Export to Trns*port

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 5 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM D&C Manager Overview Each item represents a definition of a specific design feature. An icon is shown with each item that represents the function of the item as defined in the database. The 3 icons are: Calculator (Defines quantity parameters) Paintbrush (Drafting settings) Report icon (default – minimum settings)

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 6 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Display Settings The “One Color Display” toggle temporarily changes the display of elements on the screen to one common color, and then the user may specify additional elements to be viewed in their original colors. This tool enhances visualization when reviewing quantities. The toggle “Highlight in Computation” highlights each element as it is computed.

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 7 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Design Settings Element Connectivity - sets the maximum gap tolerance and deduction tolerance used in computations and the drawing scale for cells and line styles.

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 8 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Compute Settings Define an adhoc attribute name for tagging elements that are to based on a specific chain. Select database driver. Available options are Microsoft Access, SQL or Oracle. Toggle on the Purge quantities for deleted DGN elements & Create Adhoc Attribute Table

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 9 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Computation Units Customizable Formulas can contain adhocs

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 10 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Computing Quantities in D&C Manager The Extents option determines which elements are included in the set. Range also affects the selection. If Range is active, then the constraints for both must be met for the element to be computed. The Baseline Reference can be a chain, a DGN element or use no reference at all. If an element has an adhoc tagged with the value of the chain to be used for reports, then the information generated will be based on that specific chain.

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 11 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Computing Quantities in D&C Manager If an adhoc is tagged to an element with the value of the chain as defined in the compute settings, then the information generated will be based on that specific chain.

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 12 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Exporting Quantities to Quantity Manager The export format DBMS must be selected. The output is stored in a database file. Additional pay items and quantities can be added to this file at any time, by setting the append option. The phase can be selected from the drop-down list or keyed in.

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 22 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Recommended Initial Steps Prior to working with the actual quantities it is recommended that the user define and setup the project information. If the quantities are to moved into Trns*port from Quantity Manager, this information should exactly match the project information in Trns*port. –Define Project Properties –Define Project Preferences –Define Payers and Funding Rules

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 23 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Project Properties The Project information should match Trns*port. Trns*port has a 13 character limit. This data can be exported from Trns*port and imported directly into Quantity Manager. All pay items are dependent on the Spec Year. If the project information was exported with the quantities from D&C Manager it will display automatically. Note: click on the Project to import project information from XML file from Trns*port.

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 24 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Project Preferences Toggle on the Enable Adhoc Attribute Editing option if adhocs will be added to quantities in Quantity Manager. For example: Adhocs can be added that are automatically used for the reports. Select the master pay item list exported from Trns*port. It is in a XML file format. Note: the spec year defined in the Project Properties must match the spec year in the pay item XML file. Define the Display Accuracy.

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 25 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Master Pay Item XML File from Trns*port The XML file contains: –Spec year –Unit (English / Metric) –Project ID –Classification –Payitem information Id (name) Unit (LF, SF…) Short description Long description Project specific supplemental description*

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 26 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Funding Funding is defined by payers (the funding source) and the funding rule (the list of payers and their corresponding participating percentages). The Funding dialogs are accessed from Funding > Payer and Funding > Rule.

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 27 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Creating Payers Payer consists of payer name and description. If a file of the payers had been exported from Trns*port they can be imported by clicking on the browse button and selecting the desired payers for import.

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 28 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Creating Payers To create new payers in Quantity Manager, click on the New icon and define the payers name and description.

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 29 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Payer XML File from Trns*port QM will import the list of payers from Trns*port but the percentage must be defined as part of a funding rule by the user.

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 30 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Creating a Funding Rule Assign percent of participation to existing payers. Note: The total participation for a rule should add up to 100%. If the total participation doesn’t add up to 100% it will warn, but allow the definition of the rule. Assign station range of influence if applicable, per payer. A default funding rule can be applied to each phase.

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 31 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Creating a Funding Rule Note: If the same payer participation is needed outside the station range, an additional funding rule must be created. Click on the new icon and define the name of the rule, then assign the payer participation and any station restrictions.

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 34 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Phases Phase is a way to group quantities. A phase has a default funding rule applied. Example phases: –DesignEstimate When the quantities are imported into Trns*port they must be assigned the phase name DesignEstimate. –Preliminary –Construction Final –Bid Estimate… Total quantities of different phases may be compared. Reports are generated based on phases.

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 35 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Phases Phases can be defined in QM by selecting Project > New Phase or… The phase used in the D&C Manger is automatically defined in Quantity Manager.

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 36 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Phase Properties The phase properties defines the funding rule that is automatically applied to the quantities grouped in that particular phase. Note: The phase assigned to a quantity can be changed later if necessary.

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 37 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Boundary In addition to grouping quantities by phases, quantities can be grouped by a boundary. This is normally defined when computing quantities in the D&C Manager. Whenever sheet, by fence, by station range, by view, or by boundary element is used as the “extents” this boundary information is passed to Quantity Manager.

© 2009 Bentley Systems, Incorporated 38 | WWW.BENTLEY.COM Graphic Viewer The user can review quantities graphically by activating the Graphic viewer from the tools menu.
