Map From Memory You have 15 minutes to replicate the diagram that is at the sides of the room. ONE person studies the diagram and returns. They CANNOT draw or write, they can only talk and direct. ONE person draws the pictures that the speaker tells them to draw – don’t forget size and scale. ONE person writes the words that the speaker tells them to ONE person moves to the picture to study it Swap roles every time

Study the original diagram Place it in the middle of the sugar paper Find areas that you think are referred to in An Inspector Calls In pairs, find quotations that you think relate to issues in the diagram. An example is on the next slide

“A man has to look after himself…” Mr Birling Try to get at least 5 quotations for each side. Extension: Try to relate the quotation and the area of the chart to the THEMES that we have been considering over the past few weeks.

In the news Newspapers traditionally have a left or right wing viewpoint and they choose stories to run that fit their agenda. In this way, newspapers actually help to shape people’s views, rather than just reporting the news. Decide which are left and right wing headlines and JUSTIFY your decision with direct reference to the diagram.

Synthesise! (Create,Make!!) Now, consider what, of all the events referred to and occurring in AIC, would left and right wing papers choose to focus on? Write a headline for: The Brumley Guardian The Brumley Mail

Really? All this is real and happening all the time. You will be voting in a matter of months… Look at the policies of two more extreme right and left wing parties – the BNP and the Socialist Party. What do they focus on? What is the likely outcome if these policies are taken to their full extent?

Selection of BNP Policies 2010 Social and cultural policy The BNP will oppose the intrusion of non-British and alien cultural influences which undermine our traditional value systems. The BNP will enact legislation to ensure that pensions are eligible only to Britons and those who have fully paid into the system. The BNP will encourage the teaching of British history, culture and traditions at schools. The BNP will introduce formal bank holidays for all of our nations' patron saints The BNP will ensure that the National Health Service is used to serve British people and not used as an International Health Service. The BNP will ensure that appropriate areas of public life, including school assemblies, are based on a commitment to the values of traditional Western Christianity, as a benchmark for a decent and civilised society Crime The BNP will abolish political correctness from the police service in favour of real crime fighting. The BNP will establish a penal station for hardened and repeat criminals on the British island of South Georgia. The BNP will reintroduce the right of householders to defend themselves and their property using whatever means they deem necessary.

Selection of Socialist Party Policies 2010 Trade union struggle to increase the minimum wage to £8 an hour without exemptions as an immediate step towards £10 an hour. All workers including part-timers, temps, casual and migrant workers to have trade union rates of pay, employment protection, and sickness and holiday rights from day one of employment. An immediate 50% increase in the state retirement pension, as a step towards a living pension. Reinstate the link with earnings now. A socialist NHS to provide for everyone's health needs, free at the point of use, in full public ownership and under democratic control. Free, publicly run, good quality education available at any age. Abolish tuition fees and introduce a living grant. No job cuts. Full employment through a massive programme of socially useful public works with a living wage of at least £8 an hour and a maximum 35-hour week. No cheap labour apprenticeships and unpaid internships. Guarantee at least the minimum wage and a job at the end.

Really? George Orwell created a society governed by a Socialist party so extreme in its interference in society and lives (top left of chart) that it watches you all the time and you are not even allowed to think for yourself…George Orwell created a society governed by a Socialist party so extreme in its interference in society and lives (top left of chart) that it watches you all the time and you are not even allowed to think for yourself… real life, similar situations exist in places like North Korea. Extreme right wing parties are also evident in history, the most famous being Hitler’s Nazi party.Nazi party.
