6 HOW TO SUCCEED IN MIDDLE SCHOOL Students….. Stay organized Be prepared (books, homework, supplies, etc.) Have a place to study Communicate with your teachers Eat well and eat breakfast Get plenty of sleep BELIEVE IN YOURSELF Parents….. Provide school supplies and a place to study Help set academic goals (setting goals will give your student something specific and positive to work towards) Insist on daily attendance (unless ill or family emergency) Help with organizational skills Ask for and see all progress reports and report cards Encourage a healthy lifestyle Help with time management Make homework your child’s responsibility Provide academic support Know your child’s teachers and communicate with them

7 ATTENDANCE TO DO WELL IN SCHOOL, STUDENTS MUST HAVE GOOD ATTENDANCE Students are required to attend school a certain number of days each year. It is a state law. Having good attendance means being in school everyday unless your student is ill or has a family emergency. If your student must be absent from school, please remember to always send a note upon your student’s return. Also your student is responsible for finding out what was missed and getting the work made up. Good attendance does not guarantee good grades, however, poor attendance will pretty much guarantee poor grades.
