(STOP!) –Empowering Innovators to Secure their Rights –Pursuing Criminal Enterprises –Enhancing Border Security –Outreach and Cooperation with Private Industry –Aggressively Engaging our Global Partners

4 Office of the IP Coordinator Page 4 U.S. Government Working with Industry  The Bush Administration has developed a comprehensive dialogue and relationship with industry. –Customs database for registering marks –Tools & Outreach to assist industry –Law Enforcement Coordination –CACP Developed Supply Chain Toolkit  We are collaborating with Industry to assess progress and determine trade and enforcement priorities.

5 Office of the IP Coordinator Page 5 Working with Global Trading Partners  The U.S. Government has engaged our trading partners in the fight against counterfeiting and piracy. –U.S.-EU Working Group on Intellectual Property –G8 Enforcement Strategy –Security & Prosperity Partnership (SPP) –APEC Anti-counterfeiting and Piracy Initiative –Bilateral Efforts

6 Office of the IP Coordinator Page 6 Upcoming & Remaining Challenges  We are seeing progress in the fight against counterfeiting and piracy, but challenges still remain: –Maintaining high prioritization of IP protection by governments & industry worldwide –Assessing progress in order to target efforts –Engaging all nations to understand importance of promoting and protecting IP –Educating consumers of the damaging effects of counterfeiting and piracy
