5  Dramatic irony – This occurs when the reader or audience understands more about the events of a story than a character.  Ex: You see dramatic irony in most scary movies when we know the character is about to die, but they do not.

6  Situational irony – This occurs when what actually happens is the opposite of what is expected or appropriate.  EX: This is when a fire station catches on fire or a police station is robbed.

7  Verbal irony – A character says one thing but really means the opposite.  EX: This is when you say something like, “ I am so EXCITED to clean my room!” Are you really excited? No, probably not.
