2 RRCUS NATIONAL SPECIALTY STATUS 2006 UTAH NATIONAL WAS WONDERFUL AND ALSO CAME IN WITH A $5K+ PROFIT !! THANK YOU SUSAN RALSTON, ERIN COOGAN & TEAM. 2007 CINCINNATI NATIONAL HAS RECORD ROOM NIGHTS, LARGE ATTENDANCE ! 2008 WILL BE IN GETTYSBURG, SUNDAY SEPT 21, 2008 THROUGH SEPT 26 TH, FRIDAY. CELIA WILL PRESENT A SUMMARY OF THIS EVENT. 2009 WILL BE IN LANSING AT THE SHERATON BETWEEN FRI 5/22- 5/29, AND JANE IS HERE TO TELL US ABOUT THAT 2010 IS NOW OPEN AND WILL CLOSE BY NOVEMBER 1. THE SCHEDULED LOCATION IS THE SOUTHEAST AND WE HAVE A BID FROM A GROUP IN FLORIDA. SO GET YOUR BIDS IN ! BIDS ALSO OPEN FOR 2011 DESIGNATED FOR THE WEST

3 National Specialty 2008 Judges Jon Cole is the breed judge for 2008 in Gettysburg, PA from Sun 9/21- 9/26. Bill Kent is the Sweeps judge in 2008; Let’s let Celia Hoffman bring us up to speed for this visit to historical Gettysburg!

4 National Specialty 2009 Judges Paula Hartinger is the breed judge for 2009 in Lansing—contract signed for 5/27,28,29 Contract approved by BOD Ross Jones is the Sweeps judge in 2009; Let’s let Jane Missimer bring us up to speed for this revisit to Lansing !

5 National Specialty 2009 Lansing Cluster Show on one end and performance events on the other (fri 5/22-5/29) May 25 is Memorial Day Expanded lobby in Sheraton Lansing Hotel Same great food service and management Conformation, Obedience, Lure Coursing, Rally and Agility (possibly all breed indoors)

6 National Specialty THE NOVEMBER BALLOT Voting on the Breed judge nominees for 2010 of: Patrice Johansen; Sandra Fikes; John Comerford; Everett Dean; Eugene Blake; Clayton Heathcock; and Alicia Hanna. Listing of candidates for Breed judge for 2011 Voting for 5 foreign judge candidates who will be listed for 2011 Breed judge Voting on nominees for the 2010 Sweeps judge When nominating please hold up your voting card and, if recognized, stand up, state your name and make your nomination. Nominations are now open for 5 foreign judge candidates and then for Sweeps judge nominees for 2010

7 FIRST VP REPORT NATIONAL SPECIALTY COMMITTEE Purposes: To optimize procedures for selecting National Specialty sites; to specify clear guidelines for submitting applications for Nationals; and to develop a National Specialty manual. Committee members: Mary Lynne Elliott; Jane Missimer; Mike Teeling; and George Ohanesian. Progress in last 90 days: Developed revised National Selection Policy recommendation Reviewed many other manuals Prepared first draft of our RR National manual Finished development of a National Specialty Business Plan

8 FIRST VP REPORT NSC NATIONAL SELECTION Purposes: To maximize attendance at the National and to secure qualified applications to host the National Recommended Timing: * Suggest April1-May 15 or from Sept 15-Oct 30 to avoid heat and possible airline moratoriums; * Suggest not more than 17 mos nor fewer than 7 months in between National Specialties; (for example, Gettysburg 9/26/08 to Lansing 5/22/09 is 8 months) * Suggest consideration of holding Breed on a Saturday so that people with children and/or school personnel can attend

9 FIRST VP REPORT NSC NATIONAL SELECTION Purposes: To maximize attendance at the National; To secure qualified applications to host the National; To manage the financial operation of the National to reduce risk of loss. Recommended Regions: * Make three regions each representing roughly similar numbers of members being the West, Central and East regions with 402, 338 and 436 members, respectively * West through MT, WY, CO, NM * Central through OH, KY, TN, AL * East the remainder * Three regions should help insure that at least one bid is obtained each year.

11 FIRST VP REPORT NSC NATIONAL SELECTION POLICY Purposes: To maximize attendance at the National; To secure qualified applications to host the National; To manage the financial operation of the National to reduce risk of loss. Recommended Rotation : * Current policy has bids open for 2010 in the Southeast * 2011 is scheduled for the West. * Starting in 2012 to begin with Central, East (2013); Central (2014);West (2015);Central (2016), East (2017) etc. * With the Central region listed every other year this potentially allows people a better possibility of making 2 out of 3 Nationals with a drive.

12 FIRST VP REPORT NATIONAL SPECIALTY MANUAL Current Policy Over Last 27 Yrs West 7 (CA,CA,WA,CA,WA,CA,WA) Northeast 7 (NJ,VT,NJ,MA,PA,NY,VA) Southeast 3 (FL,KY,GA) Central 5 (TX,NM,CO,TX,UT) North Central 5 (OH,OH,IL,MI,OH) Recommended Policy West 9 Central 9 East 9

13 FIRST VP REPORT NATIONAL SPECIALTY COMMITTEE The NSC Selection Policy recommends: –Reasonable timing windows to maximize attendance –Regions with roughly equivalent number of members; –Three regions to enhance the possibility that at least one bid per National will be received; –A unique C,W,C,E rotation to maximize possibility of driving to two out of three Nationals –Scheduling Breed on Saturday to accommodate families with children and those who work in the school system

14 FIRST VP REPORT NATIONAL SPECIALTY MANUAL Purpose: To list the considerations a Show Chair should address in planning a National Methodology: Reviewed ten manuals including the much acclaimed Whippet manual and the AKC manual and current RRCUS policy Results: Produced a draft Ridgeback manual, sent out to Club experts for review and comments Items Included: Introduction setting forth the important top down factors; selection criteria for and negotiating tactics with the Host Hotel in detail; job descriptions for key positions;etc

15 FIRST VP REPORT NATIONAL SPECIALTY BUSINESS PLAN Goal/Purpose: Provide a planning tool to identify and manage costs for breakeven P&Ls by each key activity, identifies costs in each area Allows “what-ifs” which flow through the model Provides base to compare “Actuals” against Methodology: Reviewed and quantified 10 years of entry data and 4 years of Specialty Order Form revenue Compiled and averaged this information into a demand revenue model Used expenses from Perry along with reviews with Performance, H&G and othercommittees and other Club experts for each P&L Databases: Includes history of key parameters like entries (performance & conformation) with revenues by source, room nights, attendees, meals, Ways & Means sales, clinic results, etc. so that each year no no longer needs to start from scratch

16 FIRST VP REPORT NATIONAL SPECIALTY MANUAL Next Steps: Evaluate and incorporate comments received and Cincinnati Actuals Finish remaining parts of the manual Use the manual for Gettysburg Revise as needed based on actual experience
