2 Intermittent Inspection –Oversight of several projects makes continuous observation impossible –Do weekly reports instead of dailies –Take lots of pictures and notes when on site

3 Report of Field Correction –Provides info for A/E to understand problem, make determination, issue instructions to field personnel –Only a source of info –Not an authorization for work or a change order –ID problem – why is original construction method not recommended –Offer solution in detail –Isolated or general condition –RPR does not take any corrective action that will result in a variation of the plans and specs without A/E approval

4 Field Investigation Report –Need more info to resolve situation –RPR does investigation and reports findings

5 Documentation of Dangerous Safety Hazard Warnings –Document actions taken by RPR staff and contractor –V important for litigation

6 Steps –1. get people away from hazard and danger –2. Notify contractor’s field rep –3. Issue written notice to contractor to take immediate action to correct hazard – record in diary –4. If refused note time of day, day, call OSHA and make report – record in diary –5. write a full report of incident –6. Call owner to tell them report coming

7 Misc. Records –Manufacturer’s certificates of products –Lab test reports –Truck delivery tickets –Records of pile driving –Record of inspection of structural welding –Sewer infiltration reports –Fab plant inspection reports –Special inspector’s reports –Weld radiographs

8 Misc. Records –Acceptance certificates from public agencies –Discrepancy reports –Deviation requests and action taken –Concrete mix designs –And others –All need to be logged and maintained in the files

9 Labor Standards Review Records Federal funds require Davis Bacon Act –Additional responsibilities for RPR –1. On military projects employee interviews must be conducted to determine classifications and rates of pay & fringe – record all on daily report to Inspector –2. Federal grant projects require certified payrolls from contractor - check for compliance –3. On site checks of type and classification of work performed, number of workers in each category

10 Labor Standards Review Records –4. Federal granting agency will make periodic inspections to check on compliance – be ready –5. Check that all equal employment opportunity laws are followed

11 Job Conferences –Need to take minutes of conferences –Time, Date, who attended, end time –Include important statements and overview of discussed points

12 Construction Photographs –Picture is worth 1000 words –Use to detail progress, damage, technical detail, type of materials, method of installation, evidence of site conditions, etc –4 basic types of photos PR, progress, safety hazard, claims support

13 Photo ID –Date, time, location on site, id of subject –Photo or negative number –For claims defense Time of day & photog name Direction in which camera was pointed Where photog was standing –Log all photos taken Easy to forget what picture is for if not immediately recorded – validity in court
