3 What does a Direct Payment mean? A Direct Payment means: It is your choice Who, what, where and when You have your support.

6 What can I use a Direct Payment for? Support to: Learn how to pay bills and understand money Learn new skills – at college and other places. Learn how to travel independently Learn how to live independently Go on short breaks/respite Find a job and support at work. I can have support on my own or as part of a group and it can be where I choose.

7 What can I not use a Direct Payment for? Paying bills Buying clothes To pay rent or buy a house Going to the pub In – House services from Kent County Council

8 What things would you like support with?

9 How do I get a Direct Payment? 1. Talk to a supporter or a member of the Direct Payments Team 2. Write a list of things you want support with and how long you want support for 3. Inform your Care Manager by e-mail, letter or phone call

10 How do I get a Direct Payment? 4. Your Care Manager will do an assessment 5. If your Care Manager says YES, you need to open a bank account in your name 6. You need to sign a form with your Care Manager and the money will go into your bank.

11 Now I have a Direct Payment what do I do? You can now have the support you want! You need to keep a record of how much goes into your bank account and how much you spend on support. You can have support with this if you want.
