Famous unknown Julia Lipnitskaia

Lipnitskaya was born in Yekaterinburg, Russia and raised by a single mother, Daniela who gave her own surname to Yulia. She is home- schooled and her hobbies include horse riding and drawing. Early life

Early career Lipnitskaya began training at age four after her mother convinced the experienced skating coach Elena Levkovets to accept her as a student.

She skated in Yekaterinburg until 2009 when she and her mother began to discuss her future, concluding that they should either relocate for the purposes of her skating career or leave the sport.

They moved to Moscow where Lipnitskaya joined Eteri Tutberidze's group in March 2009.

When Julia and her mother moved from Ekaterinburg to Moscow and her talent was noticed, her coach Eteri Tutberidze did everything possible to support Julia. Moving to a metropolis like Moscow involves solving many diverse issues.

In the 2009–10 season, Lipnitskaya placed fifth on the junior level at the 2010 Russian Championships. She was fourth on the senior level the following season at the 2011 Russian Championships

2010 Vancouver bronze medalist Daisuke Takahashi was impressed by the Russian skater. “I would like to note the performance of a young girl Julia Lipnitskaia in the Team Event. She managed to show all the Russian soul.” Takahashi told R-Sport.

2011–2012 season Lipnitskaya became age-eligible for junior international competition in2012-2013 season. She debuted on the Junior Grand Prix series at the JGP Baltic Cup in Poland, winning both programs to take the gold medal. She then won her second assignment in Milan Italy, to qualify for the JGP Final At the JGP Final in Quebec Lipnitskaya placed first in both segments to win the gold medal

In the 2013–14 season, Lipnitskaya became age- eligible for all senior ISU events. She began her season by winning the gold medal at the 2013 Finlandia Trophy. Her first 2013-14 Grand Prix event was the 2013 Skate Canada International. 2012–2013 season: Senior debut

2013–2014 season In the 2013–14 season, Lipnitskaya became age-eligible for all senior ISU events. She began her season by winning the gold medal at the 2013 Finlandia Trophy. Her first 2013–14 Grand Prix event was the 2013 Skate Canada She placed second in the short program and first in the free skate winning gold with 198.23 points in total. She won another gold medal at the 2013 Rostelecom Cupwith a new personal best SP score of 72.24 points. The results qualified her to theGrand Prix Final. At the event in Fukuoka, Japan, she placed fourth in the short program, second in the free skate, and won the silver medal behind Mao Asada She is Russia's youngest medalist at the Final since Irina Slutskaya

Lipnitskaya was selected for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi

The first skating event was the team trophy, which allowed each team to make a maximum of two substitutions. The Russian team initially discussed assigning Lipnitskaya to the free skate and Sotnikova to the short program but ultimately it was decided that Lipnitskaya would skate both She placed first in both segments to help team Russia win the gold medal.

She became the youngest Olympic gold medalist under modern rules, being six days younger than American Tara Lipinski was when she won the 1998 Winter Olympics at 15 in Nagano, Japan.

On 10 February 2014, Lipnitskaya appeared on the cover of Time magazine in the European and Asian editions

Lipnitskaya selected all the music for her programs byherself For the 2013–14 season, she chose Mark Minkov's You Don't Give Up On Love (Russian: Не отрекаются, любя) for her short program, because she loves the song. She chose the theme from Schindler's List for her free skate after she had watched the film many times.

Her Coach Eteri Tutberidze said: "She had repeatedly watched this movie – and she said she wanted to be the girl in the burgundy-red coat

At the end of the short program You Don’t Give Up on Love she draws us a heart and at the end of free skating performance to Schindler’s List she looks into the very depths of the soul of everyone. This simply can not be put into words.

Unlike some from the “state-made” field, she never had influential patrons among the elite of the Russian skating federation. She never had special conditions for her Olympic preparation. She never got special advices from experts of sporting research institutions and she never had huge financial sources. She was not sent to Broadway to improve acting skills and methods of impact on the audience. Moreover, she was often underestimated with points in favor of interests of those, who are usually called as influential persons in Russian skating.

Her skating has some absolutely distinctive feature – it is fascinating and it makes you forget about everything going on. It’s like a different reality. A reality that is very hard to describe, because it will be not enough to do it by using only such particular words as perfect, gorgeous, amazing, etc

Many media are trying to compare the youngest Olympic champion with some past or present figure skating stars but these comparisons are very subjective. Julia is Julia. She has always emphasized that she wants to be herself and she does it very successful. She manages to be herself even after her name became known to millions around the world. She is still the same Julia even after taking the Olympic gold. She finds mistakes in her skating even when TV commentators say delightful words about her performances.
