2 Introduction oStorytelling improves children interest reading and books Stories are a very powerful learning tool as they are always memorable Their learning ability and ability to socialise with other children improves Though stories kids are introduced to new concepts, new ideas Their vocabulary and general knowledge increases Storytelling helps to improve their listening skills

4 Advice on how to hold story-time oThe number of children you invite must be manageable- Big classes can be chaotic oThey should be of the same age group oKnowing the children’s interests helps when choosing the story book oSet the rules from the onset- to eliminate and control inappropriate behaviour before hand

5 Continued… Your stories should be short and allows leave them eager for more Choose a book with good sized illustrations Its always advisable to read and practice the story before telling it to the children It is nice to show the children the illustrations while you are telling them the story

6 Continued… A story with limited text are always the best With some stories it is often not necessary to read line by line but always keep the storyline Avoid asking a lot of questions but you can ask simple and useful questions like “what do you think will happen next?”- or “what did you like most about the story?”
