4. Why use a template?  The hard work has already been done for you  You know they look good!  There are several styles available  You can just cut & paste!!  You can personalize with colors, fonts and pictures

5. Background Colors  Make sure you have a good contrast between your background color and your font color  Colored backgrounds will attract attention  Simple backgrounds allow the content to be the focus  Use white for busier posters

6. Fonts  Funky fonts do NOT work well  Stick to the classics  Serif fonts: have feet that keep the eye moving – Times New Roman  Examples of bad fonts to use; bare code Blackadder Curlz Jokerman

7. Colors & Font sizes  Your poster will be viewed from 3-4 feet away  Title between 96-144  Headers 50-80  Text no lower than 35  Color ratio at least 400 RGB  Sum total of all color RGB’s

8. RGB – red, green, blue RGB color numbers 1)Right click 2)Format background/Font 3)Choose Color 4)Custom Colors 5)Add & subtract – black=0, white=765

9. Pictures  INSERT pictures rather than using copy & past  Use good quality photographs – the highest resolution you have access to.  Copyright – UNMC has copyright free photos on the Branding Website or take your own.

10. Proof your poster! Print an 8.5x11 preview of your poster to see how it will look  Go to Print  Select your printer  Select the Scale to fit paper box  Get feedback from colleagues
