Maria Cornish & Jessica Egolf Web Creation Made Easy

homework schedule parent information (Open House Presentation) announcements/important dates student work projects website links classroom photos What Can You Put on a Webpage?

Why Weebly? PlusesMinuses WYSIWYG – drag and drop interface so user can concentrate on content, not tech skills Not collaborative Free Can be slow No Ads stats available/easy to see 2 websites for free ($50/year if you want more) Support is easily accessible and visual

Let’s Get Started! www.weebly.com (link on Tech Camp wiki) Register Name website –Choose website address, Option A Choose design – easy to change at anytime Begin adding elements

More Elements! Photos one at a time = same as adding a picture Photo Gallery = multiple pictures at one time Flickr/SlideShare/Slide, etc. Website Links text element - hyperlink HTML from Delicious Upload Files Videos YouTube: embed vs. link United Streaming (video files may too large to upload)

Troubleshooting Tips If a picture doesn’t load, try to load the picture again or try loading a different one. If the picture resizes itself, just resize it again. When changing the color of text, the text will sometimes have to be highlighted multiple times before the desired change comes into effect. Sometimes text isn’t resized the way you want, resize it again. If the page freezes up, exit the page and reload it. Changes on the website are not updated on the live webpage until you publish it by clicking the “Publish” button. To place items side by side, use the two-column element. This includes anything, even elements with pictures. Use only two or three colors on a website so you don’t overwhelm readers. Also, using only a few fonts (about two) is suggested. Many times Weebly problems cannot be solved using the tips above and you may have to exit and make the desired changes the next day.

Social Personalized Homepage easily customize the Internet –using “Flakes” small, movable versions of all of your web favorites that you can arrange on your personal homepage. You can also participate in the Pageflakes community – sharing your page as a “Pagecast” with a private group or with the world, and connecting with other users across the globe. Over 235,000 Flakes and 140,000 Pagecasts are available for thousands of uses and interests Including: Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, Twitter, Flickr, news, sports, e- mail, local events, search, photos, music, videos – even interactive tools like a calendar and a to-do list – and just about anything else you do on the web at school, work and at home. Pageflakes was founded in Germany in 2006 and headquartered in San Francisco, California. The service is free for everyone.

A web- based, personalized homepage that allows you to “see” your chosen web addresses from any location Each “Tizmo” looks and acts a bit like a multi- colored Post-it note linked to the web that can be dragged and dropped, edited, or deleted Tizmos can also be set to open as your home page so you are reminded of interesting sites Great when used as quick access when presenting to students
