21 Experiences Gained…. Farmers sell seeds immediately after harvest
Farmers are keen to expand cultivation of lentil and grasspea House-hold consumption and straw for animal feed Remunerative Farmers are unaware of improved varieties and technologies Farmers need exposure and training Ensure availability of inputs in time Varieties released for a particular state performd well in other state (s) Varieties released for similar agro-ecologies should be tested Example: HUL-57, Moitree, NDL-1, etc. Quality seed of improved varieties are insufficient Establishment of village Seed Hubs Local seed storage and packaging facilities Farmers sell seeds immediately after harvest Buy-back of seed Ensure local market, MSP Conservation Agriculture can be promoted Machineries should be available Custom-hiring Scope to establish pulses in rice fallow lands Appropriate varieties and production technologies Involvement of local govt/pachyats Farmers in new areas are keen to grow the crops Need massive demonstration and motivation Remote areas to be considered Proper monitoring and evaluation Independent body & involvement of State Department Follow-up on suggestions Zero-tillage in Aurangabad
