2   This project will count as your final exam grade.  There will be NO final exam for this class! Final Exam

3   Anything related to the human reproductive system  Puberty and organ development  Sexually transmitted infections  Cancers/diseases of the reproductive organs  Pregnancy  Contraception  Medical advancements about the reproductive system  Any number of topics are acceptable, but you need to get it approved by me. Topics

4   First date listed (Tuesdays/Thursdays)  1 st and 4 th period  Second date listed (Wednesdays/Fridays)  7 th period  Monday due dates are listed as one date only  Apply to ALL classes Due Dates

5   ALL components can be turned in before their due dates if you wish!  If you are afraid you will lose your completed Check Point form, thesis paper final draft, or presentation fair poster, you may turn it in ahead of time. But What If I Finish Early?

6   I will NOT be accepting late submissions  Exception: excused absences (one class period per day)  You know ALL of the due dates  In instruction packet and on MMSA website  “I forgot/I didn’t know when it was due” are NOT acceptable excuses  If you miss due dates, then you simply lose those points Late Work

8   Final page of packet  Necessary research steps 1.Research Question 2.Thesis Statement 3.Sources 4.Notes 5.Rough Draft  Due dates listed next to each Check Point  When you check-in, I will initial Check Points

9   Do NOT lose that form!  I will NOT re-initial Check Points  If you lose the form, you lose the points Check Points

10   Need to be specific and detailed  I will OK yours before you move on  Only ONE person per class is allowed to take on a given topic.  First come, first served. Research Questions

11  Research Question Examples BAD  What are the stages of pregnancy? GOOD  How does [specific chemical] affect fetal development?

12  Research Question Examples BAD  What is HIV? GOOD  How has public perception of HIV changed since 1980 due to scientific advances?

13   Should be arguable, specific, and include all aspects of your (approved) research question  Example: The public perception of HIV has become [more/less] positive since 1980 because _________. Thesis Statement

14   At least 5 needed  You may use all online sources; journals/books recommended  Must be reputable  Wikipedia is NOT a reputable source  What are reputable sources?  Peer-reviewed online scientific journals  Major news networks  Government databases  Be careful of biased sources Sources

15   Note Check-In  Must be either: 1.In your own words 2.In quotation marks  Do NOT just copy from the source  That’s how plagiarism happens! Notes

16   You only need a hard copy for your rough draft.  I will correct it and get it back to you the following Monday. Rough Draft

18   3.5-5 pages  Title page/bibliography are NOT included in the page count  Quotes  Use infrequently  Must be less than 1 sentence  Other requirements  See instruction sheet  Bibliography  Must be in APA, MLA, or Chicago-Turabian style Requirements

22  Component #3 Presentation Fair

23   Brief summary of your research  Turn your paper into a “billboard”  Must be the size of a typical poster board or larger  You may connect construction or copy paper together to achieve this  Should be eye-catching!  Try to make it as visually appealing as possible  Requirements  See instruction sheet Posters

24   Posters must be in by the date of the final exam  June 6 th /June 7 th  Everyone will set up their posters and you will have a chance to view your fellow cadets’ work  I will be circulating and grading during this time Presentation Fair
