7 7 President Bush’s FY 09 Budget  President introduced budget on February 4  Department of Education funded at $52.9 billion (essentially level funding)  Budget eliminates 47 education programs and sharply reduces 11 others (a $4 billion cut)  Department of Labor budget cut as well

8 Association for Career and Technical Education 8 FY 09 Budget Resolution  President’s Budget not being seriously considered  House and Senate Budget Committees passed budget resolutions in March  Both assume increases in “Function 500” education, training, and social services programs  House has higher discretionary spending cap
