Note Cards

Note Card Format Heading Source Letter One detailed fact that is written in your own words (fragment). Page Number

Note Card Each note card will contain a heading in the upper left hand corner. Use the research handout on page 16 to create the heading. Project headings are as follows: Geographical Location Unique Features/Characteristics Climate Human Impact Soil Type Human Effect Phenomena Scientific Name Specific FeaturesDescription of Organism Specific Location Observable Adaptations Specific ClimateFunction of Adaptations TopographyInteresting Facts Dominate plants *** You’re not permitted to create your own headings!

Note Card Format Climate This tells me that the fact on this card is about climate.

Note Card Format Climate A This tells me that the fact came from source A.

Note Card Format Review Climate A Heading This tell what source the information came from.

Note Card Facts Every note card must contain one fact only. Facts will must be written in your own words. If not, you have plagiarized! Facts must be written in fragments! Yes! You must write in fragments! Facts must be detailed. Don’t be general. You must understand what your are writing down. Read about it first!

Note Card Facts Find Detailed Information! Don’t Be General. NO = climate warm in the summer YES= summer average temperature 70 degrees F You must use page 18 of your research packet to determine what Mrs. Kappeler wants as far as content goes! Make Sure You Use Your Own Words!

Example Climate A (summer) average temperature 70 degrees Fahrenheit Your fact goes in the center of your card. One fact per card. It must be written in your own words, and it must be a fragment.

Note Card Page Numbers Every note card must have the page number where you found the fact. If you found a fact on the web or on a database, there will not be a page number. Therefore, you must write web in that section. If you don’t list a page number for a print source, I will require you to find it! Trust me, it will be hard to find, so do not forget it when you are filling out your note cards.

Example Climate A summer average temperature 70 degrees F Page number where the fact can be located. p.16

Note Card Requirements We have provided note card requirements for you. Please refer to your handout for specific note card requirements. It is possible to pass the research project in English and fail it in science because I grade structure and Mr. Trew grades content! USE PAGE 23 !!!!!

Things to Keep in Mind! If you decided not to use a fact card, you can throw it away, but you must also discard the source sheet unless you have other facts from that same source. Don’t duplicate notes/facts! You will probably only complete five note cards on your first day. After that, you should have more.
