Create direct links to Content

Create direct links to specific EPIC databases Option 1: Using EZproxy URLs Option 2: For access within N4L networked schools Create direct links to content within EPIC databases Direct linking tools EBSCO example Gale Cengage example Britannica School example Oxford University Press example New Zealand Geographic example Using EZproxy URLS Confirming that the Ezproxy URL is included in your link Adding an EZproxy URL to an existing direct link

Create direct links to specific EPIC databases Option 1: Using EZproxy URLs Direct links to EPIC databases that include EZproxy URLs can be accessed by staff and students from your school from any web enabled device by using their EPIC school login. They will be prompted for their login to authenticate for EPIC access when they click on an EZproxy link. They will then remain authenticated as an EPIC user for the entire session in that browser. For more information about the benefits of EZproxy authentication, download the EZproxy authentication & EPIC factsheet.EZproxy authentication & EPIC factsheet To set up direct links to specific EPIC databases that include EPIC Ezproxy URLs: 1.Download the EPIC EZproxy URLs spreadsheetEPIC EZproxy URLs spreadsheet 2.Copy and paste the applicable database URL from the spreadsheet to wherever it is that you want to provide the direct link 3.Search button images for each database can also be downloaded from links on the spreadsheet to be added to your direct link.

Create direct links to specific EPIC databases Option 1: Using EZproxy URLs - examples Click on one of the EPIC databases search buttons below and login with your School EPIC login

Create direct links to specific EPIC databases Option 2: For access within N4L networked schools The entire IP range of the N4L Managed Network is authenticated for access to EPIC. If your school is networked through the N4L Managed Network you can set up direct links that can be accessed within your school network without the need to use your EPIC school login. These URLs, however, will only work within the school network.N4L Managed Network To set up direct links to specific EPIC databases for access within the N4L Managed Network: 1.Download the EPIC N4L direct URLs spreadsheetEPIC N4L direct URLs spreadsheet 2.Copy and paste the applicable database URL from the spreadsheet to wherever it is that you want to provide the direct link 3.Search button images for each database can also be downloaded from links on the EPIC EZproxy URL spreadsheet to be added to your direct link.EPIC EZproxy URL spreadsheet

Create direct links to content within EPIC databases Direct linking tools Most EPIC vendors have direct linking tools which can be used to generate a unique, persistent URL to be used as a direct link to content that you have discovered in their databases. These tools should all be used in preference to copying and pasting the URL from the browser as in most cases the URL will contain information that is specific to the session and are likely to not work in the future. Direct linking tool – Permanlink EBSCO EPIC databases: Australia/New Zealand Reference Centre MasterFile Complete Direct linking tool – Cite Britannica EPIC database: Britannica School Direct linking tool – Cite Oxford University Press EPIC databases: Oxford Art Online Oxford English Dictionary Online Oxford Music Online Academic OneFile General OneFile Biography In Context Books & Authors Literature Reference Center LitFinder Shakespeare Collection Online Science In Context GREENR Health & Wellness Resource Center Global Issues In Context Opposing Viewpoints In Context World History In Context Discovering Collection Student Resouces In Context Virtual Reference Library Educator’s Reference Complete No direct linking tool – Cut & Paste from browser EPIC database: New Zealand Geographic Archive Click on the vendor icons below for direct linking examples from each EPIC vendor Direct linking tool – Bookmark Gale Cengage EPIC databases:

Create direct links to content within EPIC databases Using Ezproxy URLs Confirming that the Ezproxy URL is included in your direct link Direct links to content within the EPIC databases that include EZproxy URLs can also be accessed by staff and students from your school from any web enabled device by using their EPIC school login in the same way that links to the specific databases can. If you have logged in to access EPIC using your School EPIC logins the vendor direct linking/bookmarking tools should automatically include the EPIC EZproxy thread in the URL that is generated. You can easily check this. The unique Ezproxy URL thread for EPIC is: ezproxy.kotui.ac.nz This thread should be included somewhere within the direct link URL that you have generated. For example, below is the bookmark that was generated from the Same Sex Marriage topic overview in Opposing Viewpoints In Context with the Ezproxy URL embedded in it: http://ic.galegroup.com.ezproxy.kotui.ac.nz/ic/ovic/topic/actionWin?resetBreadCrumb=&query=&prodId=OVIC&windowstate=norm al&contentModules=&display- query=&mode=view&limiter=&showDisambiguation=true&displayGroups=&p=OVIC&action=e&catId=GALE%7C00000000LVYW&scan Id=&source=Bookmark&u=per_k12&jsid=f5ab53e44b75cef2c2fcccf49ca9e06d

Create direct links to content within EPIC databases Using Ezproxy URLs Adding an Ezproxy URL to an existing direct link If you want to add EZproxy authentication to a direct link that you have previously generated or you have generated a URL that doesn’t include the EPIC EZproxy thread (this will be the case if you access the EPIC resources without logging in at epic.org.nz/n4lschools or by using password embedded URLs) you can easily add the thread manually.epic.org.nz/n4lschools All you need to do is prefix the existing URL with the following EZproxy thread: http://ezproxy.kotui.ac.nz/login?url= http://ezproxy.kotui.ac.nz/login?url Below is an example of doing this to a Permalink generated for access to the New Scientist magazine from EBSCO – Australia New Zealand Reference Centre: http://ezproxy.kotui.ac.nz/login?url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=anh&jid=NSI&site= ehost-live
