5 Most students enter Miami as non-drinkers. First six weeks: Searching for community. Non-alcohol events: Rec Center, Armstrong, first-year halls, 500 orgs, … Oxford house parties/uptown district: fake IDs; “jungle juice”; holding cup Our values: Respect each others’ choices Look out for each other Talk with your parents Miami/Oxford Environment

6 Miami is generally a “safe place” – review our crime statistics Often crime and code of conduct violations involve alcohol A perpetrator of an offense is responsible for their actions It is never the victim/survivor’s fault Sexual Misconduct and Interpersonal Violence: Majority of incidents involves individuals who know each other Alcohol is often used in an incident, but is not involved all incidents EX: stalking (cyber and/or in person); not clearly obtaining consent; mental and/or emotional abuse; unwanted kissing or touching; unable to provide consent when substantially intoxicated;...
