Choosing A Project The project should be enjoyable! This is the single most important decision you will have to make. Projects extend part of their A level studies. Cover an area they want to study at University. Or a hobby that they want to find out more about.

Previous project titles How has English affected the German language? Are the Media to blame for negative body image? Concrete or asphalt for motorway surfaces? Does diurnal variation affect a performer’s recovery heart rate after taking part in aerobic exercise? An analysis of the different methods available for the prevention and treatment of prolapsed discs. Too fat to treat? Should the NHS treat lifestyle illnesses? What is the future of IVF?

Constraints to the project Double Accreditation Group work Specialist equipment/accommodation

Activity 1 Look at Yourself Which subject areas have you enjoyed? Which activities would you describe yourself as passionate about? What are you good at? – Skim reading the overview of a text? – Putting people at ease and getting them to talk? – Creative writing? – Analysing information? – Getting the most out of IT? – Performing in front of an audience? – Making products? Is there a topic you have always wanted to find out more about? If you are thinking about going to University or starting employment, is there a topic relevant to this? When you first thought about doing an EPQ, what was your first thought as to a suitable project?

Activity 2 Generating Ideas Spidergram Put the theme in the middle of a piece of paper Write down whatever that theme suggests to you Link ideas together Ideas shower Work in a group No idea is stupid Write all ideas down

Working title This must have a clear focus and look to: – solve a problem – confirm or deny a theory – explore an issue

Next Step Now you need to think about the general area that you would like to study. Will it be a report or an artifact? Where will you get your initial ideas/ research from? Put a brief summary of what you want to do in my pigeon hole by 15 th November
