2 Requirements  GMC: need to be appraised in all roles  Format differs between programmes slightly  Northumbria and Durham & Tees broadly similar  Peer appraisal encouraged for 2:3 years with face to face appraisal with a TPD done just before reappointment which is every 3y  New trainers get face to face appraisal for first 2 years

4 PEER APPRAISAL  Contact your Peer Partner  Agree what you will discuss and pre meeting work  There is a suggested menu to pick from  Agree a date and venue  Inform the Training Programme of these details

5 PEER APPRAISAL  Do it  Each Trainer to write it up individually  Share with Peer  Add subsequent reflections  Send final versions to Scheme  Job done!  Often this is offered at the Educators Conference as a workshop

7 TPD Appraisal  Designed to prepare you for reappointment  Done in year before reappointment (3 yearly)  Tees fill in a grid mapped to the trainer standards  Northumbria have their own form  Cumbria- not much on their website

8 Checklist developed from the current reappointment submission  Be able to outline the developmental needs/PDP from the last 3 Trainer Appraisals (One to One/Peer) and progress to meeting them  Evidence for Equality and Diversity in the last 3 years  List the last 4 Trainer Workshops/Groups attended and specific Learning Outcomes  Summarise Learning Outcomes from Educational Conferences and other Sources since last Reappointment  Premises Accreditation … any changes including IT Systems  Describe Practice Library and other Educational Resources  Percentage of Records summarised  Describe Patient Involvement in the Practice  Last Patient Survey  Describe how Teaching/Management of Chronic Disease Management takes place  Formulary or alternative  Health and Safety Protocols and Children at Risk/Violent Patient Warnings  SEA experience

9 Other Evidence  Submit a recording of an observed teaching or CBD  Submit an audit marked to COGPED standards  Be prepared to discuss how your practice meets trainer standards.

Which particular aspects of your work as a trainer have gone well over the past year? 2. Which particular aspects have not gone as well, or have you found difficult? How would you like to improve on these? 3. Are there any other particular areas in training you would like to develop in the coming year? 4. Are there any areas in which the training programme could improve its' performance to benefit yourself or the training programme as a whole? “The Deanery reserves the right to have access to all information held by the TP on trainers, in the unlikely event that it becomes necessary to do so”.

11 Reappointment  Electronic form sent to you a couple of months before you need to submit it  Important that you gather info in your annual GP appraisal every year so you have a record when the time comes to fill it in  Important info to record:

13 Trainer Education  Tees 5-6 afternoon workshops per year  Northumbria locality trainer groups  Educators Conference- 2 days each Autumn  New trainer groups run by TPDs for each programme
